This show is really emphasizing the reason it was customary to kill the ENTIRE clan of a traitor or someone accused of treason. I think my count is 4 separate people failing the spare no one fuck around & find out method.
There is a reason even most infants weren't spared the fate of their family. All it takes is one person who perceives that they or their family have been wronged by you, next thing you know YOUR hole family line is on the chopping block.

Right now based off of others I've seen recently I get the rating tbh. There is also the fact this one really leans into the sound effects. The little noises for every look or blink. I've only just started episode 5 and although I'm enjoying it, it's still kind of meh for me. The story feels like we're still taxing on the runway, no real movement. So an 8 seems like a good place at the moment based on pacing, editing, and overall story.

ps there is still someone close to SuiGe that I do not fully trust. the camera lingers on him too long a certain times. one of his men. not one of the main 3, but the 4th or 5th guy can't remember his name though so can't write it. not the young hot head, not the stoic pale one, & not the one who keeps catching SuiGe & YiXiao in compromising positions 😉. the one im thinking of isn't around all the time he gave a weird look to the tracker like he was worried the tracker would do his job too well. can't remember how he is connected to SuiGe, like rank & if he is military or home guard. he just looks sus every time the camera lingers on him.

I freaking knew it! I will never trust certain types of characters. Too many times has the same character type actually been more than what meets the eye/rumor mill.

im wondering with the story introducing a place that can save people from death, but they can't ever leave...could the old empress still be alive? They never let her son see her body. He & the Emperor know the doctor who sent the FL's sidekick off...& the old Empress seems to have known that doctor as well. Seems like that place will come back up again.
I realize that the Emperor might have his hands tied when trying to get justice for his former wife, but to what appears to the views as turning a blind eye to multiple assassination attempts against ML...never going to win father of the year. I refuse to believe he is ignorant to what the prime minister & new empress have been plotting.

Anyone know why they've decided to release one episode a day this week instead of the 2 episodes a day it was the first week of airing? With only 10 episodes left are they trying to drag it out? Are they allowing all those currently on break to catch up? I am confusion. Or maybe the programing is busier because of Mid-Autumn festival. I was thinking that by Wednesday the show would have had the express out.

Can someone please make an edit with Zhou Yi Ran and Bian TianYang with the Boss Baby "I'll be there" sound cause what is the count now, 3rd or 4th drama co-lab?

The most obvious would be Zhuang Ming(Prime minister's nephew), but I fee like the philandering friend of ML aka Murong Yao has been MIA a bit too long for how high up on the character list he is. Also, never trust the ones who openly flaunt their debauchery. They can easily overhear information and go unnoticed/disregarded by others. And with him supposedly up north at the boarder....idk. His eyes also look like they could belong to the person under the mask.
The most out there and potentially heartbreaking option is the second prince, Feng Cheng Yang(again the eyes are similar). I think this train of thought mainly stems from the fact a 30 year old actor is playing a teenager and so I could see a duality in his future. Also ever since *redacted* (realized I would accidently spoil another drama) I'm not trusting any younger siblings that look-up to their brother and are described as sweet.

So unless we haven't met him yet I have some speculation on masked man. I obviously haven't read the source material so I'm shooting in the dark here. In Spoiler tag below.

I need the context for the situation she witnessed ML kill people. If it was in her home(think hospital) I can understand why she would view that with fear. And with the FL the female physician was first under attack and saved by the FL so different context, different light. Female physician was in survival mode and was recued vs probably checking on a patient only to witness a slaughter.
But again, I don't know when or where she was when she first met the Prince(ML). In the flashback it looked as though he was ambushed in a room & not that he entered a room to kill everyone inside.

Everything I've seen Chen He Yi in, his character either abuses his wife or kills his lover...now we get the double combo.

They got the key lights so bright in some shots that they're looking like a glazed doughnut or a honey baked ham.

I didn't see who the director was before starting but I had an inkling when I was zoomed in on a nostril/eye flare and then zoom-cut to an over the shoulder high key + tornado hair combo. He's not a bad director, but his style of directing always makes me giggle at the most inappropriate times.

I think with one of his people being the godson of another partner/board member of his father's firm, there might be information purposefully left out. I think the only one he can fully trust is his little secretary & I don't think he's the one personally going out to look into people. So if his legal team is compromised others might be as well. But that's just my take away.

I think he feels responsible for her like an older brother. But also because she is the only other person that knows about Chen. So a mix of guilt, nostalgic care, and paranoia.
