Well I admit I'm pretty action-averse, especially when it eats massive amounts of screen time, defies logic, and features said protag single-handedly taking out armies of opponents - characteristics of American films I've mentioned. My intention there was to highlight what I hope this show's action scenes will avoid rather than mimic. And from the standpoint of production value and choreography I'd say it's doing a pretty stellar job, esp considering the budget.
I was just itching for him to grab CYJ by the neck at first encounter - would have been his best way of escape too. This was definitely an improvement over ep1, and although the combat still stretches the limits of believability (knife fighting), it's obvious they've put a LOT of work into it. Besides, we've seen worse in James Bond films. I just hope it doesn't come at the expense of reason. Did he expect to successfully lobby for the villagers' lives and depart unscathed, after storming her fortress, over tea lol? Furthermore, it makes no sense why she'd want to harm the most qualified man on earth to protect Ko An. Music is getting overbearing but in the more subdued scenes it's great. Here's hoping CYJ gets pistol whipped in the face next week LOL. I'm a bit confused at the criticism of Yoona though, because imo her portrayal of a very emotionally/mentally damaged victim of power has been great. Lots of potential for character dev there too.
Stop the press...can someone explain to me why rival Assemblyman needed a whole team of ex-special forces turned baddies to take out an entire building's security detail when all she needed was...her phone's camera and a $2 case to prop it? LOL
On the good side, I'm much more likely to see military fatigues and combat boots here than sockless chaebols in $500 shoes and slacks, 8in too short. What a relief...
Now I remember why I avoid action-heavy dramas - for a minute there I thought I was watching a badly edited version of the Matrix Reloaded. The choreography in the early scenes started out...not bad...then just got more and more ridiculous (although I've seen much worse). The script was an even worse offender, as I was cringing through that entire interview. And Yoona running throughout the entire episode LOL? This didn't make a good first impression but I'll stay on board because of Kim Kap Su. I did, however, like the bgm and photography, esp at the beginning. Idk, I guess I'm one of the only ones on earth who wasn't dazzled by ep1.
The chemistry between the two main leads was super cute. However, the plot was horrible. I think it's stupid how…
Agreed. Up to ep9 it's been great but here comes the nosedive. 2nd male lead uses Yang Guo to deter his suitress and Mom, then disingenuously confesses to her when he knows she's fallen for XYP - all in the guise of helping him when it's really payback for stealing annoying 2nd female lead...WTF. A do-gooder turned manipulative schemer, perfect >.>
I'm currently on hold, 6/16 episodes completed. I just can't seem to understand how I'm expected to believe this…
There is a shift in focus back to Na Bong, but it comes way too late, her 'development' is hardly believable, and there's very little compelling chemistry with Chef compared to Sun Ae, despite her over the top antics. To me the whole run felt like Su Ae's show, which made the last few eps really...frustrating.
Reading more of the negative comments I think I'll end up dropping this drama after all. I'm 2 episodes in, but…
Yeah the kitchen crew were definitely a highlight of the show; they were consistently entertaining from start to finish. And, ironically, as annoying as Sun Ae's frilly boisterousness was, her on-screen chemistry with JJS was far more touching than PBY's, as was her character work in general (which dominated a huge chunk of the eps and canabalized time needed for her human counterpart). The bigger problem though was the sheer number of bone-headed decisions made by the MCs when the show turned dark *keyboard bashing, hair-pulling*. I hate to discourage you here, but if you continue it may help to know this in advance...just my .02
Overall a pretty good show. The storyline very much played second fiddle to the romance, but that's fine because it developed into something surprisingly poignant in the mid-latter eps, esp for its superficially "cute" beginning. I'd also give props to the MC's chemistry, those cute intros, the OST, and the professor (who easily takes best actor imo). Something about this show just kept bringing me back, and if it can do that then it has succeeded.
Episode 15 was riddled in Deus Ex Machina Kim Hyun Ji gaining back her memories just in time - Bong Pal and the…
Deus Ex is right. You'd think a Vet would be smart enough to think of a better distraction ruse. Even worse, he foiled his own plot by allowing the duo (he knew they were hiding) to go free o.0. The rest of his "plan" was dependent on their p.o.s. van conveniently refusing to start @ the swap site and that they'd be in constant communication with the police LOL.
OMG the stupidity in ep15. I loved how the police were always three steps behind the Scooby Duo. Monk: "PBP, DON'T fall for a good spirits like KHJ, but I have no problem with you chasing down parasitic terminator demons...weaponless...in underground, deserted subway systems." Was I the only one rooting for the professor here LOL? Can we just get back to the romance pls. Oh well...
The actress playing Shen Xing Ren is a real weak link. I haven't seen her in anything else so not sure about her…
THIS. His continued sacrifices for her with little/no reciprocated affection got to be ridiculous. You can only dangle the carrot of relationship consummation for so long before you lose credibility. I blame the writers and extended length because it really began to rely on the proverbial Cliche Bible. The plot fuel from the early eps supported the romance but fizzled imo.
The manager totally steals the show. Roy is good too but everyone else is a very distant third. The first 9 eps were brilliant comedically, after which it unravels into mediocrity.
Monk laughing in the prof's face, cornered in his office :/ I'm reminded of a Gene Hackman line: "you're either incredibly smart, or incredibly stupid".
