Is it just me who thinks the music choices for many scenes are really odd? The ALi song is awesome, but everything else is more often off than fitting imo and pulled me out of the moment several times. And just because there's "Angry Mom" in the lyrics of that happy-go-lucky song doesn't mean it suits the show, because nobody in this drama "just wants to have a grand ol' time" O.o
I love almost everything else about this show though^^
How is it, guys? Not sure whether to start watching this year or not :D
The promo-material is missleading. Angry Mom is no comedy. It is funny at times, but it is more drama, mystery and suspense and the subject matter is rather dark and heavy. It's the kind of show that gets to you emotionally.
This is based only on the first 4 eps, but so far it's awesome: many intriguing characters, fast pace, intricate web of relationships and agendas, great acting... go watch! ;)
This show explored so many interesting aspects of a revenge story that I've often hoped for in vain in other dramas, all while being badass and subverting stereotype-based expectations. Sure, It's not completely without it's clichés, but the fast pace and the spot-on acting more than make up for that. Definitely recommended!
What I liked about this show were the realistic problems it posed - feeling lost and also the difficulties of living in different worlds.
Sadly, most of the potential for an insightful contemporary romance remains untapped and character development gives in to writing convenience, especially towards the end.
It's still a fine show though and I didn't get bored. Just don't expect anything great.
I almost didn't try watching because the synopsis sounds rather appalling to me but I'm really glad I started anyway, because that's not what the show is about and there's so much more to it. Yes, Setsuko's family situation is twisted, but this is no show about indecent romances. It's about abuse and domestic violence and how the character's try to cope.
It's dark and heavy and there are some scenes that are difficult to watch, but I'd recommend it anyway.
I agree that tastes differ and it's not that I'm a diehard fan of the show, but I still want to explain why I think the show handles things differently.
The jealous ex sureley is far from being new, but here she's so ineffectual. Like when she talks to Yui about ruining Kei, Yui goes "I won't ruin him" instead of the conventional "I'll leave him for his own good". Or how the ex tells Kei about the affair and he just confronts Yui about it and it doesn't become a real problem. And the mother is not only overbearing, she has an actual mental problem. Still, Yui doesn't go "I'll give up my life and leave Kei to support mom", which I'd expect from the common drama main lead.
As you don't like the show, I don't wanna go on forever, but maybe you understand why I think that while the setup is quite clichéd and obvious, the actual show itself is not (at least to me). Well it's not all fresh either, but you get my drift^^
Maybe my advantage is that I never expected a more mature drama, hence no disappointment. Anyways, hope you found something you like better =D I kind of envy that ability to drop stuff^^

This is funny. I'll give you that the story has some cliché's, but I felt that so far they dealt with most stuff in a rather counter-cliché way. There were quite a few instances when I thought "Oh no, now it's gonna play out like cliché XY" and was surprised when the show handled it differently.
The drama is shown on Fridays which means 6 ep. should be coming out soon and unfortunately we have subs only…
I think they will announce the total ep number in the last quarter of the show's run, which is common for J-dramas. I didn't find any official source stating the ep count yet, so it's probably not decided yet and I'm guessing the 11 eps on mdl are an estimated number.
Edit: They decided on a total ep count of 10. Will be corrected on mdl soon, too.
I'm thinking about this drama as it has higher ratings in Korea than Healer which has absolutely stolen my heart,…
I liked Healer better, but I think Punch is actually the better drama. If you like intense battles of wits with twists and turns everywhere this is the show for you. All characters are fleshed out and understandable while fitting none of the common stereotypes, which is really refreshing. Don't watch if you're looking for cute and/or romance.
Raw is here: http://www.miomio.tv/watch/cc154937/
I don't know if anyone picked it up yet, but with this cast I'm pretty sure someone will sub it soon.
