Try imagining you don't know any of the source material. Would you have the same problem with the show? If yes, then the show has made a mistake. If no - which is more probable in this case imo - then their interpretation is just as valid as any other. Any adaption should stand on it's own feet after all.

I usualy like watching Shojo Manga adaptions, whether I read the original or not. You just know what you're gonna get and sometimes I'm in the mood for something simple and cute. If it surprises by being thoughtful it's a plus.
I watched all of the above and read most of the mangas, too, but the thing is that Shojo Manga tend to blend together so I usually don't remember much of the details if I didn't read it recently.

Did Gi Cheol actually die? I always assumed he just froze in shock for the moment but not that it'd kill him.

Well, subbing is a lot of work and when there's a bigger fanbase, there also are more people working on subs. Additionally, K-dramas got official sources subbing them, too. It's certainly not like people are half-assing J-subs - they just lack the manpower. Being pissed at them doesn't help.

I was super confused and miffed at the replacement of KYJ, but now watching it in action it actually makes sense and seems like a rather smart choice.

I wasn't really excited about this because I'm not into legal stuff and while I like the cast, I'm not a fan of anyone particularly.
That said, this show totally surprised me by being awesome. They do a really nice job of making you care for the characters and even the cases and still manage to maintain a mostly realistic vibe. Also, isn't Kang Soo the cutest thing ever?

Actually the king and the prince fled together during the Second Manchu Invasion. Joseon had to surrender to Qing anyway though and the king was forced to send his two oldest sons to Qing as hostages so Qing could have some kind of insurance (and reportedly Sohyeon offered himself voluntarily) among other terms. It's not like the king had much of a choice there.
The drama is not clear on the details of the war and skips quite a lot because they can aussume that the (Korean) audience knows what happened.

Yeah... I was like, Oh no she fell of a cliff, she's gonna live! -> pew, they found her body, she's dead -> nope, alive after all -.-

I agree! The show's strong point is the cute&fluffy stuff, but the last eps have been depraved of that and it's just really hard to watch.
It's a pity they opted to draw out the mom issue because surely there are other paths this story could've taken, like some more angel/reaper stuff.

Bleh, the Hyang Sun character is used up. I wish they'd introduced somebody new as the concubine. Her poison needles do have me wonder if she'll be the one to kill the prince though.
Hope they won't make us wait too long for season 2!

It's badass, funny, witty, poignant and gorgeously shot. Makes you fist pump, cry and grin like a fool. So yeah, I think it's awesome =D

I do wish Tanokura had more character traits than 'handsome' and 'likes Hanae', but they are so cute together!

I don't think you can expect them to come up with different games just to make it unpredictable for those who watched the J-version.
The J-version also used the same games as the manga, so it was predictable for those who've read it. This is part and parcel of adaptions.
Sure, knowledge of the original is more of a spoiler here than in other adaptions, but this should be expected and not an aspect of disappointment.

And to note something totally superficial: they really have extraordinarily pretty hat chains in this show (especially in contrast to the ugly ones in Night's Watchman).

This series requires quite some suspension of disbelief (They don't investigate the PC of someone who died amidst obscure circumstances by default so she has to go sneak-investigate it herself? a.o.).
Btw, Rika is not German for Doe (or anything else, for that matter).
I'm watching cause I miss Takei Emi on my screen, but it's the first show I'll drop if time gets scarce.

Kim So Eun is also doing the Korean equivalent of Matsuda Shota's counterparts. In BOF as well as in Liar Game she's the girl who was Matsuda's partner in the original (although the J-versions are stingy on the romance).
If they made an adaption of Love Shuffle next, would she be Yoshitaka Yuriko? xD

Ohh I'm so excited to see we'll indeed spend season 2 in Qing!
Does anyone know when it'll start? I can't find any info...
History is a spolier but I love that this show manages to surprise anyway.
