I agree, Dramas are helpful mostly for vocab and some expressions, but for grammar you often need explanations.
Heh, I also keep my Kanji Workbooks put away safely, because I keep telling myself that if I have the time I will totally study them again. Only I never seem to have the time xD In Middle school I didn't have any other time-consuming hobbies and there wasn't a lot of pressure from school so I was able to invest a lot of time in learning Japanese.
I don't quite get why I wanted to learn Japanese then, because the Anime I watched had always been dubbed and I didn't even know about subbing xD Just fascinated me^^
Now I'm a lot more into Japan then at that time, but University keeps me occupied most of the time T_T I do try to study some Korean from time to time though, but not to the same extend as I studied Japanese^^ It's helpful that they don't have many characters!

60-80% is quite a lot of Kanji! =)
I used to take classes for some years. I liked Anime and Manga during middle school and at one point I mentioned to my mom that I like Japan and want to learn Japanese and the next thing I knew is she enlisted me for classes xD
I don't know if I would have been diligent enough to get anywhere by studying on my own... it's amazing that you learned Japanese to this degree by self-study!

Wow, you can read JP subs? I totally suck at reading the characters and it's a pain for me whenever there's writing that they don't read out aloud v.v I studied the characters some years ago but I forgot most of them and now I can only read really simple stuff T_T
I hope Yakou Kanransha will get subbed completely because it's really awesome and I want lots of people to watch it ^^
For me Shotenin is also easier to understand =)
I've only read the manga so far and didn't watch anime/drama because of the comments (lack of romance T_T) but your article made me wanna watch the drama ^^
Oh snap. I feel so bad for the guys =( According to the intro they have wronged her, but I can't imagine that it outweights her doings... and they are too damn likable, all of them!
Lol...Very nice article!! I don't think anybody on here wants to be cured of their DC. Maybe over time DC could…
There where even articles about how to overcome a drama slump or how to get others to watch, too! I wouldn't want to be cured either ^^
I know of one individual where the AC (Anime Craze) has killed off the ADV after some time of infection, but some symptoms like love of Asia are still there...

Yakou Kanransha, Shotenin and Karamazov are great! Yakou Kanransha is a little difficult, but it's too gripping to wait for subs^^

Haha, maybe they just wrote it in Japanese characters in the script and nobody was able to tell her how to say it properly xD

I used to only watch with subs, but when I started watching currently airing ones I got impatient and just began watching raw.
I still need subs for dramas with a lot of complicated words (e.g. political stuff), but if I don't understand something that I think is important, I can just pause and check the dictionary.
But usually you can understand all that's going on even if you don't understand each and every word that's being said. Just give it a try ;)

Yes, 1880 Russia and modern Japan should be different, haha.
There's a Manga based on Crime and Punishment and the Drama is based on that Manga, so I don't know how much of the story is the same, but I think it will be interesting anyway! Should be fine as long as they stay true to the theme.
Haha, I can imagine that their Russian must have been terrible in Bloody Monday! I don't know Russian so it sounded cool to my ears xD But it often makes me cringe when they try speaking a language that I do know but need subtitles to understand what was said ^^
The only thing that seems to be fine is Japanese speaking Korean or the other way round. There's usually some minor accent but it sounds cute.
