Title Something in the Rain Spoiler
Happy ending - but happens only at the very end.
I wouldn't use the word "sad". There were frustrating things that happened, but in the end of the last episode, the two leads got together. The ending was quite nice, but I found it too little, too late to compensate me for the angst that happened before it.

The very last scene of the very last episode shows them both in the future (perhaps 20 years in the future) still very much in love. They use different actors for the older Nueng and Anueng, which is initially confusing if you're not expecting it.

Anueng does have that whiney voice in the early episodes, but she does act more maturely as the series goes on - especially in season 2. But their gap in age, life experience etc are central to the plot, and Nueng struggles with it, as does Anueng's family (there is a BIG twist with regards to Anueng's family which I won't spoil here). Nueng repeatedly pushes Anueng away, but eventually, Anueng wins and love wins.
I want to add one more comment which is slighly spoilery, so I'll put it below as a spoiler.

why? why not use the actors from the first series? just make it a new series if youre going to recast the whole…
Different production companies produced these dramas, and each has their contracted actors which they use.

im not too sure about this age gap... is it really worth it??
This is just my opinion of course, but I absolutely loved this drama. Even though I only scored it 8/10, it is my all time favourite drama, out of the 200+ that I have watched. But if the age gap is a problem for you, then just skip this one, because the age gap is absolutely central to the story. Of course, you could always start watching it, and if you decide its not for you, then just drop it.

These things happened in the original Chinese drama, which I found to be problematic:
1.) The ML kissed the FL while she was sleeping, and BEFORE they were a couple. This was creepy.
2.) The ML clamped the FL's face with his hands and non-concensually kissed the FL on the mouth (again, BEFORE they were a couple), which the FL found uncomfotable and embarrassing, causing her to run out of the apartment after it happened. This showed the ML did not respect the FL.
3.) The ML once AGAIN clamped the FL's face with his hands, but this time he aggressively kissed the FL on the mouth in front of his mother as a display to his mother. Even though the ML and FL were are a couple at this time, it was very clear that the FL was extremely unconfortable when this happened. This again showed that the ML did not respect the FL. Kissing your partner should be to show affection to her, not to send a message to your mother.

In far too many Chinese dramas, a female's consent appears to be optional.

I really enjoyed this drama. I actually found it slightly better than the Chinese original. It was a lighter and easier watch than the original, and I appreciated the shorter drama length, giving me a more compact and less draggy story. I also liked how more of the drama focussed on their youth, compared to the Chinese original in which most of the drama focussed on them as adults.
In the Chinese original, the ML did some things that were problematic, which I've listed in the spoiler. I was very happy that these things did not happen in the Korean version.
My score: 9/10.

It's definitely 40 episodes only. Apparently when the drama was first released on broadcast TV, it was split into 46 shorter episodes. I've asked MDL to change this so it stops confusing people, but they have a STUPID rule that says the number of episodes it was originally broadcast with is the number it must show on MDL.

This is a very good drama, but with so many episdoes (Part 1 & 2), I did find it got a bit draggy at times, especially towards the end. Also, with so many characters, at times I lost track of who is who. It's a drama that you need to commit to and concentrate on to fully appreciate.
I do struggle with Leo Wu's acting. I've seen him in a couple of dramas now, and it seems to me he has very limited range. He always seems to have the same expression, irrespective of the emotion he is experiencing.
If you do like epic Chinese historical dramas, then you should definitely watch this one.
My score is 8.5/10.

Of the unofficial streaming services that make this show available, I've noticed that https://asiaflix.net/ has superior English subtitles to https://kisskh.co/ or https://myasiantv.al/. Unfortunatley, https://asiaflix.net/ seems to take longer to upload episodes. As of right now, it only has episodes 1 & 2 available (and working). It has links to episodes 3 & 4, but those links don't currently work.

19 is not a minor in Korea today. Since 2023, Koreans have adopted international age - which is the age system all Westerners are familar with. Once a Korean has their 19th birthday, they are no longer a minor. Prior to 2023, Korean's used "Korean Age", which assigned an age of ONE at birth, and then added one more year for every Korean citizen on January 1st each year. This resulted in the absurd situation where if a baby was born on 31st December (assigned an age of 1 at birth), they then found themselves gaining another "year" of age the next day, which is January 1st. So a baby that is 2 days old could actually be 2 "years" old in Korean age. When the Korean government made this change in 2023, every Korean instantly become one or two years "younger". Under the "Korean Age" system, a person was a minor until they were 20. In older Korean Dramas, reaching a (Korean) age of 20 is often emphasised as becoming an adult, but in reality, these 20 year olds (in Korean Age) were actually 18 or 19 years old (in International Age). Hopefully that makes sense.

The quality of the show has diminshed with the erasure of Ri-Won. They've had to pad the show with excessively long (and not particularly interesting) conversations to replace the cut Ri-Won scenes. Also, Ri-Won was an interesting housemate, so we lose her input, and any scenes in which she played a significant role. I'm still going to watch the show and enjoy it as best as I can, but sadly it will be an inferior show to what it could have been.
I really don't understand this Korean mentality of trying to erase a person because of previous misdeeds. Ironically, it has the opposite effect of what I'm assuming is intended. It highlights the person and their previous behaviours, rather than hiding or obscuring it all.

There is this thing in called objective truth. That is, something is true (or not) independent of anyone's opinion, including yours. It is objectively true that a 19 year old person is an adult, both legally and biologically. A young ADULT is still an ADULT. An ADULT with limited life experience is still an ADULT. You may believe (possibly correctly) that two people are unsuited to each other because of a difference in age or life experience or religious beliefs or something else, BUT an ADULT remains an ADULT irrespective of your assessment of their suitability to be in a relationship with someone.
