As a Thai GL fan, I found this drama generally enjoyable, but it did have a lot of deficiencies (which others have pointed out, so I won't here). Its a must-watch for GL fans, but for general drama viewers, I'd say give it a miss. There are plenty of much better dramas out there. My score: 7.5/10 I'm going to have a whinge about two things that pissed me off in the SPOILER below.
First, please take in mind they changed a LOT from the book. Karan is the eldest daughter of Jattawa and Four,…
I have a question if you don't mind. Who was the woman (in episode 7) who appeared and saved Kliaokhluen by making the gun that Fiat was holding dematerialize? How did she know Kliaokhluen's life was in danger and why does she also have time reversal abilities? I haven't read the novel, so did I just miss something in the drama, or did the drama assume viewers have read the novel?
The chemistry between Hua Zhi and Gu Yan Xi is amazing. It's subtle, but its hot. Those glances. Those stares. Those smiles. So many Chinese dramas have (in my opinion) poor chemistry between the leads, but not this couple.
I found this drama quite frustrating. It started off quite good, but did get quite a bit draggy in the second…
Some opinions about some support characters: Qin Yue totally creeps me out. He's a sly, disrespectful, manipulative piece of shit. Chen Yi Chuan is an immature, whiney, arrogant, self-righteous twat. Gu Xiao Man is a frustrating doormat for continuing to pursue Chen Yi Chuan after being repeatedly rejected and repeatedly insulted by him. She needs to get some self-respect. Xia Lin Xi's mother is a vindictive, arrogant, controlling bitch. Xia Lin Xi's father is a coward who needs to grow a pair of balls and stand up to his wife and protect his daughter.
I found this drama quite frustrating. It started off quite good, but did get quite a bit draggy in the second half. Like most Chinese dramas I've watched, a tighter story with less filler and less contrived drama would have been better. I liked the premise and much of the main plot, but there were many little things about this dramas that annoyed me (which I won't detail here). Many of the side characters were stupid, annoying or just plain evil (see spoiler). The two things I most hated about the drama were: 1.) Xia Lin Xi and Jiang Zhen Han lied to each other so much. They were portrayed as having a healthy relationship, but they just lied to each other almost pathalogically. This is not what a healthy relationship looks like. 2.) There was no consequences for any of the crimes committed against Xia Lin Xi and Jiang Zhen Han's company or against them personally. I found this extremely unsatisying as a viewer. I need to see justice prevail in a fluffy romcom, not just have the perpetrators let off scott free. 8/10 P.S. It's not is a great message when a young woman who is so pencil thin she looks like she'd weigh 30 kg soaking wet, is regularly saying she wants to (or actually trying to) lose weight.
Wow just watching a drama, you started judging whole korean society and its culture?. Great.
No. Even though this does happen in this drama, it is also a reflection of the reality in many Asian countries. I have seen several videos in which Asian adult children have discussed the reality they face in a confucian based society (e.g. Korea, China). Also, there are probably 500 dramas in which adult children are controlled or tormented by an 'evil' parent or grandparent. If you don't think this is the reality faced by millions of adult children in these countries, then I'd suggest you really don't know what you are talking about. Great.
I really enjoyed this drama. The production and acting was quite good and the story kept my attention to the very end. I really liked how the leads were mature enough to have a conversation when they hit a difficulty in their relationship. They actually behaved like they loved each other. Far too many dramas have the leads acting like mute middle schoolers, resulting in unecessary and contrived breakups. I really liked View's character, even though it was a minor role. I hope she is case in a lead role in the future. And Emi's eyes - oh my goodness - they do things to me. Regarding the story, I would have liked to have seen Khem face some consequences for his years of misbehaviour. This is comfortably in the top 5 Thai GL dramas I've seen and is a must watch for any GL fan. Overall: 8.5/10
Various thoughts/opinions in no particular order: I have mixed feelings about this drama. It had the potential to be an amazing drama, but fell short of its potential. The more serious scenes and subplots were much better than most of the attempted humour. Lu Jing's university dorm mates were just too stupidly goofy to be taken seriously, however I did find it pretty funny when they thought Lu Jing was gay. I wanted to hate Ding Jia Yun, and I did find it creepy that he was pursuing a woman half his age. I was also unimpressed when he tricked the target of his affection into a private dinner so he could confess. But otherwise he was a decent guy who accepted rejection maturely. I ended up disliking Sun Bin Yu a lot. He was probably the most whimpy, whiney, pathetic (second) male lead I've ever seen in a drama, and his aggressive pursual of Ma Shan Shan even after she rejected his advances was by definition sexual harrassment. But he wore down her resolve in the end, so there's probably a message in there somewhere, although perhaps not a very positive message. I love Noona romances, but I need the younger ML to be worthy of the more mature FL. Lu Jing is probably the first ML I've seen in a Noona romance where there was no question about his worthiness. (I wasn't impressed by his non-concensual kiss of Liang Chen, but that was his only fault by my judgement). I really could believe a national star like Liang Chen could fall for a university student, if that student was Lu Jing. I also liked the character of Liang Chen, but wasn't a fan of the way she acted like an eleven year old girl at times when she was around Lu Jing. There were far too many filler scenes that seemed to serve no other purpose than to extend the run time., especially in the second half of the drama. This story could have been told in 20 eipsodes rather than 31. Overall, a slightly above average fluffy romcom. 8/10
Guys tell me if I should watch it. I feel like watching gl, but cannot find anything without super duper big age…
It's definitely worth watching. The acting and production are of a high standard, and the story is very engaging. Although there are some characters with some significant problems, there isn't the toxicity you find in many other dramas. In fact, it is the respect and maturity (and chemistry) the leads show to each other that I'm finding very refreshing. I'd comfortably put this in the top 5 Thai GLs ever made.
It's just so refreshing for a writer to break away from the extremely tired old drama formula of having the lead couple break up (usually due to a stupid misunderstanding) only to have them reunite in the last episode. Having a couple face a real difficulty that could easily have separated them, and overcome it because they communicate like MATURE ADULTS and because they actually LOVE EACH OTHER is such a nice change. Drama writers please take note - not every character you write needs to have the maturity of a middle schooler and the communication skills of a tree.
Do you remember what happened to his ex wife or girlfriend
His wife left him and their child. I don't think a reason was ever given as to why she left (but it was ages ago I watched it so I may have forgotten).
Can someone spoil for me why the FL didnt get along w her husband?
There marriage was only ever a sham marriage. That is, they married purely for appearances and social benefit, not for love. So, even though Lee Sun Jae and Oh Hye Won's relationship was technically an affair, it also sort of wasn't.
This is a cute romcom, with some similarities to "Business Proposal". However, in my opinion, BP was a significantly better drama than MDN for the following reasons: * BP was MUCH funnier than MDN. * Both the primary and secondary leads had more chemistry in BP than in MDN. * I found the story in BP more engaging that the story in MDN. * The 'evil' Grandfather in BP wasn't a sadistic sociopathic bully like the 'evil' Grandmother in MDN is. I scored BP 9/10, but I'll only be scoring MDN 8/10.
