Agencies and PR specialists often boost their talent by creating fan rivalries or the illusion of competition. Baba is arguably the biggest and most popular star in China right now, so when you're aiming for the top, it's common to fabricate the perception that your talent is on the same level, positioning them as "competition" to Baba's popularity in the industry. This strategy is often referred to as black marketing or what we sometimes call "astroturfing" which is false impression of grassroots support or fan rivalry, making it appear as though the public or fans are driving the conversation when, in fact, it's being orchestrated behind the scenes.
For instance, after YAMG, Yang Yang starred in Fireworks in My Heart alongside Wang Churan, a rising actress. Her "fans" ( water armies, PR specialists) quickly began comparing her to Baba, debating who made the better pairing with Yang Yang or who was more beautiful. But he did Love Like the Galaxy just before that so why is the comparison not with Zhao Lusi instead? Because Baba is the bigger star, if not the biggest star. These fan feuds generated headlines and kept her name in the spotlight, helping to build her visibility through strategic media play. In reality, WC did not organically have the industry standing nor credentials to be heavily compared to Baba unless it was manufactured and done to create buzz for the drama and WC.
You might have seen something similar during the TLB run, often its rarely the artists themselves who do this but rather their agencies and managers. When you're a new artist, you don't really get a say against management who are after a quick buck.
I work in Communications/PR/Marketing so I see this a lot in different industries.
These comments were meant to be at like 47k plus but MDL was actively deleting peoples comments as it was happening lol we still don't know but during its run, the comment section was off the charts

Because in there minds, ZLS is the next Baba which is incorrect. Before she can even reach Baba, there is still Yang Zi right there and they aren't even neck and neck which ZLS fans deliberately ignore. Besides, Yang Mi, Tiffany Tang, Liu Yufei, Liu Shishi, ZLY, Tan Song Yan etc are still active. ZLS is adorable but she will always play secondary roles next to the above unless they retire or a tax scandal hits them. She is more akin to Shen Yue, Zhou You, Ju Jingyu, Tian Xiwei etc
Lusi comes across as a sweet girl and what happened to her so sad and I hope the manager was held accountable but her fans, both local and global, need to stop having this parasocial relationship because they are way too delusional about her standing in the industry.
Well when i read it i never imagined Reba in it. So for me personally she isn’t fit. But that’s just because…
The author was more unhappy with the discontinuation of her manhua at the hands of her greedy publishers which halted the writing altogether and thus the writers of the show had to venture further without the original source material. I also remember the author was unhappy with additional characters in the drama that took away from central characters in the manhua, who played important roles in Changge's development. In the manhua, Ashile Sun was pure Uyghur but the drama insinuated that the uncles hatred for him was due to his Central Plains origins etc Han Chinese. The creators and censors would rather die than have such a heroic character be ethnic Chinese which took away from the story altogether.

And the gag was, she was offered the role first. The manhua writer even characterised Changge's features on Baba. The hate on her is so forced, its embarrassing.
Youku has a history of fucking up xiaxian dramas so I don't have high hopes for good consistency but my girl Tiffany always look good so I am here to support her lol
I’ve heard that novel fans aren’t happy with anyone— they keep rejecting the actress rumored for the drama.…
I feel like the character Jiang Ruan would be suitable for Baba considering she plays cold characters well. Comparisons are inevitable, both novels are popular and will have their fandom wars but that's to be expected as these novels are well loved.
At the end of the day, how well the drama will do depends on how much PR mitigation producers will invest in it. Considering the popularity of the novelist and novel, I think they will do their utmost to protect their investments. Just look at all the scandal surrounding Legend of the Female General. Normally, a scandal of that nature will tank a drama but they are scrambling to save it and should be airing soon. But time will tell if Baba will take it up or offered it as we still don't know the nature of her Jaywalk contract.
He's even said he wants to work with her so let it happen! But his agency sucks so hopefully they do right by him this time and pair him with actresses in his lane.
Rumour has it that Qian Shan's The Rebirth of an Ill-Fated Consort is set to be adapted into a drama. This is arguably her most darkest of rebirth novels and FL is portrayed as a unparalleled beauty, cunning, cold, and strategic. Next to Shen Miao, I would say they are of equal ilk just layered differently.
For those of yall who have read the novel, do yall think this role would be suitable for Baba?
