Yes, the express access I have to purchase, but I already have the VIP premium access as I have an iQIYI subscription. So I'm still debating whether to get that and watch all the episodes at once or wait for the VIP release. I'm guessing they'll release two episodes tomorrow and the other two the following day.

I actually don't mind whether it ends happily or not. As long as they can justify the ending and they don't give us an open ending, I'm good.

Not to mention some of the characters actually have blond and silver hair. lol I feel like these people are just looking for something to complain about or they're just trying to justify their reluctance to watch this drama. Nobody is holding them at gun point and forcing them to watch this. And yet they keep coming back here and making an announcement that they're dropping this drama because of this and that. Uh, what are we supposed to do with that information? I'm not going to try to convince you to keep watching. You do you!

And that is why I keep replaying that opening fight sequence between Zhu Yan and Zhuo Yichen. That will forever be one of my favorite fight scenes in C-drama.

I've been seeing a lot of comments about the modern background music sounding out of place in this series as it's supposed to be a costume drama. But most costume idol dramas do this. Why is it any different in this drama? In fact, I find that Liu Yuning rap theme dope, it makes the fight scenes all the more badass. I admit that sometimes the music sounds too overbearing that you can't hear the dialogue anymore. I'm sure that drives Mandarin speakers nuts. I had the same problem with other dramas in the past. I distinctly remember Destined has that exact same problem. Thankfully, I watch with English subs so I can let it go. I honestly think the musical score and insert songs in this drama are excellent (if only they'd turn the music down a bit for scenes with dialogues). I actually find their choice of songs refreshing, not the garden variety kind, and it fits the stylistic and atmospheric vibe of this drama.

Story-wise, no. That movie is based on Omnyouji. But both projects were made by the same director so the filmmaking style is similar.

My guess is the ever-burning wood coupled with the malicious energy in him changed the makeup of his body so his inner core cannot be so easily taken from him unless he takes it out himself. This makes him different from other demons.

This is common in C-dramas, especially in idol costume dramas. But if you notice, a lot of these modern songs employ traditional Chinese instruments like Liu Yuning's rap rock theme.

So who checks the humans then? Nobody. The princess telling him about the scale is convenient to the plot. Their meeting and her falling in love with him even more convenient when he has an ailing wife that needs to be cured.

And obviously humans are stealing resources from the Wildnerness as well. I mean, where did they even get the ever-burning wood macguffin thingy? They would have had to go to the Wilderness to get it. How did Wen Zongyu even know about the healing properties of the dragon scale of Princess Longyu anyway? So humans must have studied the demons and the Wilderness as well. I don't think this whole plot line about the Baize goddess was carefully thought out. I don't even believe it was originally part of the story.

Cheap? This is one of the most expensive-looking C-drama productions I've ever seen to date! I recently started watching the other popular dramas that are currently airing and the differences in production design, costumes, cinematography, atmosphere, and even acting are glaringly obvious. I have not seen a C-drama with these kinds visuals and vibe before. But then again, I haven't seen Guo Jingming's other dramas, the only other project of his that I saw was The Yin Yang Master. It's not perfect, but it'll definitely take me some time to move on from it. I will miss this kind of production quality in C-dramas, that's for sure! It is truly unique and that's probably one of the reasons why some people dislike it. It's not their usual fare.

As for AvenueX. I have stopped listening to that woman since it became obvious to me that she's not in the least bit objective about her reviews and that she spouts mostly nonsense when it comes to her critique of the writing and production. She's no expert, she just pretends to be. Her reviews and opinions are no different from the consensus of Chinese fans. She praises dramas that are highly rated in China. She criticizes actors that are cancelled in China. She dislikes projects starring actors she dislikes. Whatever "inside" information she offers to her viewers/followers are most likely readily available on Chinese sites. She is not a reliable reviewer or even source of information, that much I can say.

Yes. I already posted a comment about this particular scene. That felt very personal. To me, the reason why it was written and executed so well was because it came from something real. I believe Guo Jingming wrote this scene himself. Writers write best when they write what they know. But I do believe that the drama was written with the central figures being the two male leads in mind because the story revolves around them, their bond, and their shared fates. They are natural foils.

People in this comment section are really passionate about this drama, huh? Some got worked up over a preview. This is why jumping into conclusions is never a good thing. Ying Lei is still best boy! 😂 Chill, folks! The drama is ending, let's cherish these last few days, shall we? 😁
