Someone clarify pls. The baize token is divided into two. One for the goddess and one for the great demon. Then…
This is one of the plot points that don't quite make sense to me either. This part of the story is either underdeveloped or not fully explained. To be honest, that token has very limited functions, one of them is to bind demons when it's convenient. It's hardly ever used in the drama. And no, the goddesses are not powerful, nowhere near as powerful as the demons. They should be but they're not.
Because Zhu Yan and Zhuo Yichen's fates are entangled. They are parallels to Lord Bingyi and Ying Long who were…
The Bingyi clan was just his father, brother, and him. He's the only one left from that bloodline. Besides, his father and brother brought a host of soldiers from the clan with them and they were all killed. He allowed the Demon Hunting Bureau to use the Bingyi ancestral home because he was alone and lonely.
Give me a spoiler guys im at eps 4. Why did ZY wanted to die by ZYC hands so badly? I mean i know only ZYC can…
Because Zhu Yan and Zhuo Yichen's fates are entangled. They are parallels to Lord Bingyi and Ying Long who were best friends but Bingyi was forced to kill Ying Long in order to save the Wildnerness. Bingyi was the original owner of the Cloud Light Sword and Yichen's ancestor. Ying Long was a great demon who was tasked to protect the Wilderness just like Zhu Yan. He too was seen as evil and destructive but he actually sacrificed himself for the greater good. It is believed that Zhu Yan will sacrifice himself too and Yichen will be forced to kill him to save everyone. Also, Zhu Yan owes Yichen a blood debt for wiping out the Bingyi clan. It's his way of atoning for his sins. That is why it has to be Yichen and no other.
Everyone is beautiful ah, but Bing Yi...Like, I'm sorry, but he is so ethereally beautiful, I genuinely find it…
Jiarui's makeup and styling as Bingyi is simply gorgeous! He looks so majestic and otherworldly yet there's a softness to the way his eyes glowed and his silvery bluish hair falls down his shoulders.
I watched 11 episodes. I used to believe that demons are seductive by nature and that their seductive aura effects…
Yes to the hairpin. Word of Honor also used that technique to show that Wen Kexing was basically giving his lover his most treasured hairpin. In fact, I've always thought that Yichen and Zhu Yan's dynamic is reminiscent of Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing's. Then someone else said that young Zhu Yan and Li Lun remind them of Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan. Their characters are definitely BL pairing archetypes. People can say that we're women-hating-BL-obsessed shippers but we just call it like we see it. I wouldn't have minded the hetero romance if it was fully developed but it feels like it was shoehorned. You take out Wen Xiao's character and subplot about the Baize goddess, they would still have a pretty solid plot about demons, humans, and gods, and their trifecta male characters.
okay, since the drama is nearing the end. let’s share the best moments in Fang Of Fortune so far. we have come…
So far, my favorite is the scene where Yichen confronts Zhu Yan after Ying Lei's grandfather died. That scene was so well acted, written, and executed. That was gold!
anyone knows if this series will be on viki (or netflix ?)
Not sure about Viki but this is an original iQIYI drama so they rarely get picked up by Netflix because iQIYI doesn't have a contract with them unlike Youku and Tencent. I'm also hoping iQIYI will sign a deal with Netflix so their dramas can be streamed there too, though.
According to the calendar, no. Just one episode per day until the end. But that might change since Cheng Yi's Deep Lurk is premiering today so it will have serious competition on the iQIYI site at least. They may want to release more episodes at once through express package.
Is Bingyi also a dragon? Yinglong is a rain dragon/deity and what I read was that Bingyi is an ice demon? But…
In Chinese mythology, he's a river god, the god of the yellow river to be exact. That's why he can manipulate water. Ying Long is a winged rain dragon in Chinese mythology. But it's quite possible that Bingyi will be portrayed as a water dragon while Ying Long is a fire dragon so they can cancel each other out. Based on the MV, Yichen will grow feathered wings, though. There's a creature in Chinese myths that has the head of a dragon, the body of a lion, and the wings of a bird. So it's also possible that Bingyi is not a dragon but this creature.
I am normally not this active on MDL. In fact, I was just a lurker for years and just decided to make an account earlier this year. I used to just come here to check out some of the reviews and comments if I was hesitant to watch certain dramas. But for some reason, Fangs of Fortune compelled me to share my thoughts with you guys. So thank you! Whether this drama ends on a high note or not, it has been fun interacting with you guys. I just wanted to say that.

Don't forget, they used the "cutting sleeves" line in a conversation between Bai Ju and Ying Lei and Ying Lei does seem to be a little too attached to Bai Ju. I also read somewhere Bai Ju was originally written to be an older character, not a 13-year-old. Those of us who know what that means know what that scene really means to convey. And then there's the fact that they kept promoting this drama by making the male leads interact in certain ways that scream BL to me. I mean, why would you ask Yan An and Minghao to princess carry each other? Why would you challenge Jiarui and Zhenxuan to pretend like they're kissing? I knew exactly what they were doing, they were trying to appeal to the BL-loving crowd to promote this drama.
I just know I am getting cancelled for this but since that has never scared me and every one is free to share…
I had a discussion with other folks here about how the Baize goddess and her part in this story doesn't quite make sense as if it was an add-on and was not really supposed to be part of the plot in the beginning, and that the Baize token is nothing more than a macguffin. Once they got it, it was hardly ever used again. If the goddess is supposed to play a significant role in this story, then Wen Xiao would've been written to be more powerful and she would've used that token every chance she got. That token would've had powers beyond just binding demons because that's basically the representation of the real goddess. And yet, it was just the thing that they were looking for in the beginning, when they found it, it broke, and then they went on a quest to fix it. After they fixed it, it's barely used. And that's why Wen Xiao's character is underdeveloped. It's like the writer doesn't quite know what to do with her. So I'm beginning to think that she was never supposed to be part of this story at all, or at least she wasn't originally supposed to have a bigger role other than a potential love interest. Guo Jingming does like putting BL elements into his stories and if rumors are true, he's not actually straight. So a male-centric drama would be more his speed. I believe he originally wrote this to be a bromance with a side love story and found family tropes.
