This director is trying to create various ambiguity scenes so to keep viewers guessing and confuse.…one ending is CQ and ZGY both died, CQ stabbed ZGY and he died, CQ went to war and died, but at the brink of her death, she saw ZGY in white horse coming to receive her. Then the hut where CQ and ZGY have children and YX came to visit with his Empress are all YX’s dream. He grew old alone, thinking of visiting the lake, he saw the old ZGY(likely his imagination) and wondering if he had not pull the arrow, they will still be good friends? Then he saw that if he didn’t pull the arrow, the image of two younger version of ZGY and CQ were smiling at him, again his imagination. Then another version is ZGY didn’t died from CQ’s stabbed, and he grew old becoming the XiMeng King, alone, making sure no slavery at his state. He also travelled to the lake to see YX in his old state and they just stared at each other with regrets? Many side casts were sacrificed for the dramatic effect🤷🏻♀️. The director is really trying very hard to be poetic, but lost the story line. That’s my take, it’s a mess.
ML so far is a war demon in suffering, he can’t exactly feel/sense, so he is neither good nor bad but he is driven by his goal to get out of his current suffering state however can’t help having involved as he sees how hard FL is trying to revenge for one of his identity. I love Allen in this role, he is always good at portraying a tormented soul.
Just watched the first ep., nice that they started with a wedding…hahahha. I like the colour tone and pace. I will have to come back later to continue. Allen Ren as usual looks great in costume drama.😍
Tall, handsome and smart young man, such a gem. Smart move to use his current popularity to flourish his other interest in electrical engineering field. I still remembered watching his first drama ‘Maiden Holmes’. May he continues to flourish his interest in science and energy. He reminds me of Prof Brian Cox in a small way. His promotional interviews on his upcoming documentary:
I enjoyed reading your review very much. I haven’t finished the third story yet but the first and second have…
Thank you for reading my review and the kind words. Yes, agreed that the first two stories are enduring. the last one has to be watched with a slightly different mindset to appreciate its theme;).
Well written and succinct review. I am glad you finished this. As you, I find this WuXia’s theme quite real and true to the classic WuXia universe, the generational issues were pretty complex. As pointed out, the execution could have been better to sustain audiences attention; the casts done pretty okay. Love the portrayal of Cai PingShu as a tragic heroine, and I was surprised that I enjoyed this more than I expected and rated it 8/10 too;).
Well FL is in love with SML even after he abandoned her, she stays single till the persuasive ML came into the…
In this set up, she is his childhood friend and should know his character, but she didn’t persevere to wait for him. As he thought she will. SML is not the hero, it’s an unconventional love story, and second chance may be too late. In other type of romance story, maybe SML’s character will get the girl. lol.
This is not a straightforward romance, it’s complex, matured love, so the theme is grey. If you are looking for clear cut love, this is not.
The themes are focusing on themes of reincarnation, forbidden love between humans/demons, and the "Unity Alliance”, if you enjoy such themes, you may like it. The sequence of watching: Love in Pavilion then Sword and Beloved followed by Red-Moon Pact. Its not so much of mystery but misunderstanding. The evil forces creates a lot of fake situations and misunderstanding for the leads to manage (GJM uses that part in Moon Sect and LWY’s story). Personally I like the first two series, plot and acting much better, dropped the last one as didn’t quite like the acting.
