Finally get to watch this. Wanting to watch this for Yu Shi, his first Rom-Com movie. I am pleasantly surprise by the story and ridiculous, hilarious humour. And then the twist and serious undertone of relationship issues. For some point, I actually dislike FL for her fixated view and her harshness towards ML in the story, and wondered why does he has to beg her to return to him. But then I realised her struggles and her love for him. Yu Shi done a fantastic job in this role. Love the adorable ducks!
Hope more people will come to see and appreciate this romantic comedy;)

You are right that a lot are not explain through verbal conversation. But it works for me as subtly and allowing audience to infer makes the drama more intriguing to me. IMO, FL has been shown as a strong character since beginning, over achiever, confident and gets what she put her mind to. Then she encounters first time ever, job burn out, fiancé cheated on her. In such a character, she will self doubt, feel embarrass and self blamed that she is the ‘not good enough’ hence things are failing around her. She lie to her mother(we understand her mother has always have high expectation on her), FL doesn’t want to disappoint her mom as she already feels so disappointed with herself. Of course lying is not the best way, however she is not ready to confront it and wishes her family would take her in wholeheartedly and give her time to tell the truth. Which is what I feel the drama is setting up, where FL is learning to change her expectation, heal and grow. It only 2 ep., and I see so many comments judging both FL and ML. lol!

I agreed with this point. Till this current day and age, the Japanese would still worship and pray their war hero, the yearly visit to the shrine by their PM still sparks controversial debate. Their view on their doing has a very different take from the Nazi. I have many close Japanese friends with split views and would argue on this.
My distance ancestors were part of the group that flee from China too, and till now after a couple of generation down, I believe they are still traumatized by what had happened back then. War always leave pain especially for the survivors.

Exactly. Sometimes just a realization of burnout is enough for one to drop everything and regressed. She thought she could seek comfort home and from family, but maybe not so. As you said at least her best friend and ML is there for her and not judging her.

From the beginning I have never see ZZF as a good person, he has some human moments but seems like after he turned, he just live his true potential of a selfish person. But I still feel hard to associate this actor to a scumbag character hence May deep in me still trying to justify. 😅

I know Pearl S Buck’s book on ‘The Good Earth’, a very good read. Not familiar with Han Suyin, but you got me interested, will check out some of her writings;).

Thanks for raising these comments. It’s such a tough time, with lots of hardship, difficulties and should never be downplayed even if it’s an unrealistic drama. I agreed that unless they leave the country, those who stay will have some sort of trauma that haunt them for ages. I am prepared for a realistic ending which I hope this drama would give despite of the plot holes.

Ah thanks for your reply. I would have prefer the novel version as you mentioned. Making FL choose and be in dilemma of her love choices just made her too emotional which was unlike her character set up from beginning. And taking this angle definitely made ML too love brain.🤦🏻‍♀️

This drama tried to show moments of his human side for audience to empathize with him. But it’s hard for me to feel pity for someone who not only is morally grey but also rather selfish, he will sacrifice whatever is needed to keep himself alive. A true survival of no concern of others. I wonder will he break if it threatens his son. But as he said in previous ep. to GYZ, “see whose karma will come back and bite them.”
