The Emperor is upset that Ye Liu Yun, the Grand Master associated with Ye family refused to return to Capital even after Emperor has ordered for him to return. So yes, the Emperor set this trap to frame Ye family. He asked CPP to send Shadow, but he didn’t know Shadow was Si Gu Jian’s brother, he only found out after the assignation.

The novel Emperor is more ruthless, but maybe they change this for the drama Emperor. Who knows, we shall see, I do hope he is kinder and more fatherly in this drama.

Someone mentioned to me that the real, big bad in JOL is the Emperor. And I get that everyone is always scrambling…
It may be easier if you realised that the Emperor’s character arc is designed to be egoist, nassistic and paranoid. So even FX doesn’t want the crown or power, the Emperor will still feel insecure. The father and son relationship is viewed very differently by this Emperor.
