Interesting perspectives, I agreed with you, after watching the arc played out and reading the chapters, I do feel that there are couple of levels to review. As you mentioned rightfully his obsession to his loved ones hence violating the law by using his powers to save her. He can’t let go. Then when in each life time, he kept missing them until they either passed on or made grave mistakes. He kept getting stuck in this cycle till the last one, he choose to let go of his obsession and choose to be with the childhood girl instead of the girl who rescue her. He no longer miss it as whoever he chooses it’s his true love. Nice theme on love and obsession.

Yup, the story is about this girl, Yang Cai Wei (played by Zheng He Hui Zhi with a scar on face) who had a face swapped (I preferred soul swapped). And now her soul (is trapped in ShangGuan Zhi’s body (JJY). A lot has commented their acting is different, I agreed, JJY’s YCW is more bubbly and cute. So after the swap, I just see them as two person doing the role, or YCW has a new life and become different personality after the swapped. With that, I could watch till current ep.🤣
