Super interesting interview. :) I love how his quest for watching N. Korean cinema reminded me how desperate I've sometimes been to watch asian dramas (not enough to travel to another country though lol). That bit about the subtitle machine was also fascinating.
Not gonna lie, I still don't really understand what the hell happened in the past with Ho Beom and Chae Rok's…
There are two things. The first is that the dad used tough discipline, i.e. he beat his players, for better results. This caused the team to be disbanded and Ho Beom lost his chance to become a pro player. Like other players on the team, many tolerated the beating as long as they could play.
The second reason is that the dad cut HB from the roster (in order to protect him cuz of his injury). HB did not understand this and thought the dad was doing it for some dumb reason. Hence, he resents the dad and thought the coach was doing it to prevent him from playing soccer and getting recognized...again ruining his chances of going pro. I'm not sure if they mentioned who reported the dad, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was HB due to this misunderstanding.
I loved the growth and transformation of the main characters throughout the drama. I wouldn't say it had messy…
Regarding the last few episodes...Xu Tan and Yu Ke Nan had a complicated friendship. They were rivals, but also good brothers, even if they didn't like to show that they cared for one another. They were like frenemies. There are scenes throughout the drama showing them secretly cheering for each other and secretly keeping tabs on each other. When Ke Nan was leaving on the bus for one of the tournaments toward the end, Xu Tan cheered him on using their hand signal. Also, even at the wedding, they used their hand signal. So yeah, they were awkward with one another, but that bond was still there from that time they spent together. The wedding just helps them become closer again. At that point both of them had achieved their goals, so there was nothing to be angry about anymore.

Sometimes characters would just casually drop key information and you're like, "Wait, what?? When did that happen?" Also, regarding the last few episodes, some stuff felt a bit rushed, but it still made sense (*see spoiler).There were some shady characters in this drama that I wish were hit with karma, but that's real life. Also, I'm okay with not having a proper conclusion for the shady people if it meant shortening the drama.
I struggled to get through this drama. It did get good at one point, especially when the main couple got together, but eventually got sucky toward the end. It was a very draggy series.
