Well, I have to agree with you on the slow pacing. I'm currently on Ep. 7 and struggling to keep going. The length…
It's the same problem I had as well! Minor spoiler, the cooking competition with Ming wraps up in ep 9. That 3-4 ep arc got really boring The extra episode length 1hr 20 instead of the typical 1hr made it worse. Lowkey if you're still on ep 7, then just skip to like the midway point of ep 9, and you really won't miss much. Ep 10 in particular picks up in terms of romance & excitement imo.
Before the competition, the leads spent time together preparing for the competition yes the mings were a bit long…
You're right. I'm a couple episodes behind as I only started watching last week rather than with a bunch of you as ep 1 aired. Just voicing my opinion because I was hyped to start this show and genuinely disappointed that I wasn't LOVING it as much as everyone else seems to be.
I mean those middle episode did drag so youre not wrong but overall I enjoyed it. please remember that this year…
Haven't gotten to the ending yet so I can't attest to that. Also, LCM really is doing a great job! But you brought up a really great point about this year being on the dryer side! I get what you mean since it's been a while, and this show is good (not extraordinary but still solid) people are fixating and probably even overhyping it by default. Fair enough. :)

At this point, I feel like I'm in too deep to drop. And as mentioned I don't hate the drama, I'm just not wowed by it like the majority seems to be. So my comment was more so to voice a different opinion than the glowing 10/10's. Especially, the 4 eps spent on a single competition out of a 12 ep show. One whole third was devoted to this cooking Ming vs Joseon debacle. (And IMO it wasn't 4 episodes (that are 1 hr 15+ min long) deserving.)
I'm genuinely confused on if I'm watching the same show as everyone else... Like did you all watch 3-4 episodes on just the Joseon chefs vs the Chinese chefs and not get bored?? First setting up the showdown & then 2-3 eps dedicated to the competition. I'm at basically the end of ep 9 we're getting literal CRUMBS of the leads together and instead having one freaking competition milked for 4 eps... :/ I know how hyped up and LOVED this drama is, but I don't get it??? It's very mid-tiered rather than the OUTSTANDINGLY applauded show IMO. Very 7/10 feels. *EDIT TO ADD: Before someone writes "She's a chef, iT's a FoOd ShOw!" I know, but one single competition being 3-4 episodes long felt too much. I don't mind the cooking oftentimes my mouth even waters! It's the dragging thats my issue.
Netflix really dropped the ball with the subtitles. All they had to do was toss in an extra caption explaining…
See I've been watching Korean dramas on and off for 10 years (mainly modern) and some of those still went over my head! I caught the "ottoke" one while watching, but missed the correlation between Gwinyeo & Gungyeo. 10/10 agree about Netflix subs sucking. UGHHH. The examples I used above were just things I remembered off the top of my head. For example, Gwinyeo wasn't explain until eps 2 or 3 (iirc) even though he called her that since ep 1. I literally thought it meant demon hence him being happy that she couldn't use her demon powers on the cliff, lol (my interpretation of that scene). Come to find out it means female ghost.
they decide to keep those words because there's no good translation for them as they probably don't exist in other…
Well I mean context clues help and my examples were a handful that I remembered off the top of my head. For example) Gwinyeo I literally thought meant demon until ep 2 or 3 where they explained it meant female ghost... I get what you mean by leaving noona & oppa, but for say a first time watcher of SK historicals (not me) I'm sure all the historical terms that SOMETIMES had like a 1 second reel revealing their meanings feels overwhelming. For the example of Chaehong, sure there isn't a direct english equivalent, but they could've put Consort Selection (or Mass Concubine Round-up) and then it'd have translated over just fine. They kept calling it Chaehong, the FL acted surprised like what do you mean Chaehong in this day and age?! etc...
Does anyone else find the Netflix subs insufferable??! Why are they directly translating the olden days words from hangul into that exact same word just spelled in English? Gwinyeo, Yeonhuigun, Chaehong, etc. Any other site using better subs because I feel like I'm only half understanding the Netflix ones. šµāš«
The first half was definitely better than the second half. I had a similar experience to one of the top reviews where I went from "Whaaat? 30 minutes per ep isn't enough!" to "why is this 45 minute episode moving by so slow??" Still an okay watch, but by no means a 10/10. With such an interesting premise it could've for sure been better than what it was. (IMO)
This is the hardest one to accept that we'll never get to see. The trailer looked SO GOOD. UGH. Selfishly, I really wanted to see it with Allen & Ni Ni, which for sure is impossible... :'(
HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it'll be similar beyond the car racing + stepsiblings aspect. China would NEVER let all those mature scenes pass censorship, lol. (Not that I'm complaining because I felt like CM was all sex & no plot, lol)
This season really feels like the showrunners said 'How can we get 2 seasons out of this?'
10/10 agreed. Season 1 was superior. This seasonās editing for the infinite amount of conflicts + choppy resolutions arenāt fun either. (From what Iāve seen thus far they definitely couldāve compressed this whole thing into one 40 ep show.)
The FL's mom's story came out of nowhere and makes ZERO sense. IDK if it's actually following a plotpoint from the novel, but the way it was randomly brought up and caused tension gave me whiplash.

Thanks for letting me know!
