I thought original HL had lots of humor - especially between brother and sister.
"Playful" is the perfect description for the remake! You expressed it perfectly.

Wow, your comment is honestly one of the most balanced and respectful takes I’ve read so far! 👏 I totally…
Thank you!!
I'm glad you're enjoying it too.

Yes, the OG will always have a special place in my heart. It's on the top of my rewatch list. Beyond rewatching the entire series countless times, I also rewatch the airport scene by itself bc it touches my heart in a way that few other dramas can.

My take on the remake overall is that it's solid overall. For anyone who likes the story of HL itself, this is a quick, cute, enjoyable watch. <3

In hindsight, you're right abour the humor between brother and sister.
I guess it's the type of humor that's different. Their interactions in the original were sweet and some of them made me smile or laugh. But the comedy element of this particular moment in the remake is unique in terms of style and feeling.

Ep 5:

I'm not a fan of the ML. Not sure if it's his fault or the director's fault.
Either way. All I'm getting from him is "amused older brother."
I need "slowly catching feelings despite himself" or "slow dawning realization" but I'm getting none of that. The monlogue at the end was completely out of place.

Ep 4:

Cute vs Sweet.

The original HL in the era of both adults pre-confession and pre-dating was sweet with deep emotional undertones.
This version in the same era is cute, with only minute hints at deeper feelings so far.

Ep 2:

"There's only one reason....he likes your brother."

....

*Sneezes*

😂😂😂😂😂
OMFG I love this!!!

If there's one thing the original HL lacked it was simple humor. This version gives off a lighter-hearted vibe. The writing so far is solid. I hope they continue with more moments like this.

Just finished episode 1.
I'll say this as someone who watched the original HL and adored it.

Ep 1 was great. The actress who plays SZ is doing a great job. Maybe bc this version is a mini drama and everything is condenced, we get to the point a lot quicker than in the original. Ep 1 did a great job of introducing the characters and establishing a set up.

One additional note is that that ZLS in the original HL played SZ in the initial university episodes very strangely. Basically, SZ made the choice not to engage with JX in order to prevent herself falling for him again. Her "pulling back" tho came off as very wooden-faced acting from ZLS.

This version shows the character making the same choice, but the acting is portrayed with a twist. She lets her frustration with him show through and she gives him sassy responses, in keeping with a 18-19 yo somewhat young, somewhat naive girl who has the zest and spunk which we know SZ has.

I never thought I'd be writing this bc I'm a huge fan of ZLS and consider her to be one of the Queens of the Cdrama industry....but this portrayal, at least as of ep 1, makes much more sense to me in keeping with the character and makes for more enjoyable watching.

They do!
And they love each other.
Even tho she hates him, she still loves him. And she's committed to dying with him. She intends to kill them both together. Go figure.

He's never wanted to kill her or truly harm her.
He loves her and has never made a secret of it.

Based on the ending of the latest ep and the previews of the upcoming ones, they are now in a truce and determined to work together in order to uncover the mastermind who is truly plotting against them. And he is committed to winning her back and gaining her forgiveness. <3

So basically it's both. A misunderstanding, and someone plotting against them.

They were in the mortal realm to fulfill a love trial, where they played a married couple, and the rules were that they were forbidden from interfering in the lives of mortals.

She was very kindhearted and constantly broke the rules in order to save people.
He always told her off, but never reported her misdeeds. She always promised to stop, but never did.

The final blowup happened when an immortal dragon came and caused drought, fire, and massive deaths to an entire village.
She killed the dragon, despite him telling her she's forbidden from getting involved.

The "higher ups" had warned him that if he could not convince her to back off then she would face terrible punishement. I forget the details but it would have been extreme. Maybe even a death of some sort. But bad bad punishment.

He was afraid for her, so decided to punish her himself.
He sealed her powers and left her in the mortal realm for ten years to live as a mortal. Then he left. This was to be her punishment.

Unfortunately, he left not knowing she was pregnant.
She was pregnant, and faced very harsh circumstances and abuse while alone.
Ultimately the child died in a plague which she no longer had the power to stop, heal, or fix.

After her powers returned she found a way to revive the dead and bring her son back.
But the spell, or the artifacts used for it, were forbidden.
He had no clue what had happened, no idea he'd had a child, no idea she was trying to bring their child back. All he knew was that she was breaking the rules again, so he came to stop her. When he appeared it broke the revival spell and their child died for good. She was hearbroke and swore to kill him in revenge.

It's only the latter eps upwards of 20's that he finds out what really happened.

We also find out recently that someone behind the scenes is manipulating everything and pitting those two against each other, but we don't know who or why.

I also think she is just as guilty of her son's death, after all she caused all that chaos by repeatedly intervening…
You're correct.
She was like a child who posessed an adult's power who ran around causing chaos and destruction.

The issue is, she led with her heart, regardless of the rules.
It's like the old trope of those rich parents who cover up for their child's misdeeds so the child never faces any consequences, until the child does something truly awful that causes horrendous damage.

The problem in this case was that HR wasn't actually a child. She was an adult who should have, and did, know better, but chose to act defiantly.

BJS should have had her face the consequences the very first time she broke the rules.
Also, he could have told her that he too cares for humans and undertands her intentions but regardless, the rules of the universe must be obeyed.

They both screwed up, but she more than him initially.

As for him, towards the end, I do believe he should have paid more attention to those ten years instead of looking away (tho it was probably only something like 10 days in the immortal real's time, and he never could have anticipated the horrors she'd face since their time together prior to his leaving was pretty safe and stable). He also should have looked deeper into why she made the formation which was intended to revive their child. All the prior times she broke the rules it was for the sake of justice, protection, love, etc. He should have known she wasn't doing something blindly or selfishly and should not have acted without fully investigating.
So towards the end of events, maybe he carried blame equal to hers.
