For me "Revenant" was going in the creepy territory more than scary.

She left 10 years ago and I get that she might have wanted to get money for her child's better life - did he sent any over the years? Basing on the situation I doubt it. Did she contacted them? 5 times in total before start of the series (that's roughly once every 2 years). Does she have any pictures of her son (maybe the one from 6 years ago)? I haven't seen any anywhere in her house (the only pictures seem to be in WB's mom studio).
Now she is throwing money at SY (and Duo) and thinks that it would solve the issue instantly. Does she actually want to reconcile with SY or is she just lonely? Or perhaps he is just a tool to her? He might think that she wants to use him like she tried to use Duo - get trough him to the real "prize", WB. I got thins weird filling that every time she tries to get close to SY, something else than her love for him was the cause.
I am not saying that she is evil but if she truly wants to reconcile she is going about it the wrong way. She contacted them on her timeline now she needs to do things on their terms, as she made her bed and now has to sleep in it.

So far we are on EP 16 and no, not officially dating (they live together thou). We still have 8 EPs to go, so who knows? This theoretically Chinese BL, so probably not...

I think that it might be a bit different in Chinese culture - I remember reading novels (theoretically set in the past), where 1st wife was called mother by all of her husband's children (one was like the empress and the other was just married as the 2nd wife but since 1st was dead they all were supposed to call her that - even children from 1st wife) 🤷‍♀️
In some Asian cultures they call their friends mother "mother", so it might be viewed differently.
As for substituting: sometimes the "new" parent is demanding things they have no right to but there are families where they are considered to be more of a "mother"/"father" than the bio one, so I would not generalized. In this series SY's mom vs. Duo's mom - who is actually more of a mother figure to SY is clear (to WB as well).

Yes, you are right legally. I meant that if children are raised together as siblings from early age then they form bonds like blood related siblings do and then it gets into incest-like territory IMO.
I find it curious that adoption of the child would make it incest but without it - all other circumstances being the same - it would not 🤔 Would that also be so if the child is basically an adult when being adopted (or an adult - I think that in Japan you can adopt regardless of "child's" age)?

I for one hope it does not happen (like in "The Guest") - the story really doesn't need it IMO but for me it looks a bit like she and the policeman might be the end goal...
Side note: when I was checking cast, it was stated next to Ujin that he is prof's partner, so my fujoshi brain went to the gutter 🤭 The story however never depicted their relationship before Ujin's passing as more than acquaintances (after it was like friends with prof mentioning - if I remember correctly - that his "gift" makes it possible to see the one he misses).

And they did not grew up together (if they were raised since childhood as bros then we might have some grounds for incest label but they met as young adults, 16 years olds)!

Grandmother seems to crave money, power and immortality - nothing else matters. I think that killing Ujin was one of the cruelest and heartless think she did (she most likely did not know the girl - girl must have been still teen when she died and grandmother was adult at the time). And after that she kept his father like nothing has happened. The only silver lining is Ujin's constant presence in Haesang's life - without him he would have been totally alone/alienated.
