I thank you a lot for this detailed comment. It always saddens me to see people struggle and not being able to reach out for help. I'm only a pharmacist (still in the making) but I had struggled a lot as well and except for my partner, family members interpret my behaviour as being lazy and have a very obsolete view on what mental diseases actually are. It took me so long to seek out for help which is why I feel a bit frustrated that nobody actually voices their concern. May it be either for themselves or for Uea. I see why Uea can't speak up and I wish (just as you do) that the writers would show how you should care for mental health. There have been quite an amount of K-Dramas that I have dropped because the conclusion wasn't to seek help. It was that the person who suffered just ignored a certain problem and after that was gone, they were all better again. To me that felt like a punch in the face. If you as a director decide to portray mental health and its treatment, you should properly dive into the matter but I guess it's still a taboo in SK as well 😞.
But seeing you as a professional, I thank you for your insight and all the help you offer. If anyone just wants to talk, even though I am not a psychologist but a mere pharmacist, I am always here to listen as well!
After sleeping a night after watching the latest episode, my brain works a bit better again. I just wondered why Uea just can't speak up. I thought that he already had a lot of interaction with King, somebody who is straightforward. King should talk more as well but then again the series doesn't really show how the relationship between him and his mother actually is. Would she understand if he told her that he has somebody he's interested in? And the cultural difference or difference in social background kicks in. If my parents were to nag me about marrying and they were to arrange dates for me, I'd cut them out of my life. To me that's a complete no-go but I understand that it's still common in some cultures. I also understand now why Uea isn't able to grow. Somebody already mentioned that he suffered consecutive trauma and didn't really seek for professional help. Thus trusting King or telling other people off is just not a thing and both of them aren't really able to properly communicate. They both have their problems and I hope next episode won't be as bad as the preview makes it seem to be. (GOSH, I despise the mother! What a great actress!) AND the cat scene...holy smokes! Made my brain malfunction. Didn't expect it to be this way 😳🐱
Ki Tae’s jealousy was valid, cos he saw a lady being touchy and laughing with HIS boyfriend, especially when…
Might be because of cultural differences or the environment that I grew up in. My opinion is that nobody owns me. I'm entitled to talk to whoever I want and if the other party is somebody I am friends with, touching isn't something completely out of the norm. There is of course contact that goes beyond and I dare say that Wan has enough self-confidence to put the other party into place if it's too much. That being said: Why is there of need of jealousy? Ki Tae realised how he felt when he already lost contact to Wan. Maybe it wasn't that well presented in this series but it didn't seem as if he tried to get back into contact with Wan except for asking the friends for his phone number. I think that was even before the seven years, iirc. And I am sorry if I come over as rude but you don't start a relationship and get jealous over something which you know isn't true. But here I am again at my first statement. This might be a cultural difference and I can just not understand it very well. There have been much worse series, no questions asked! I only think that jealousy can be avoided with more talking and YES. I say it was too little and denial of feelings and running away belong to that category as well.
This wasn't proper communication? To me improper communication would be if Ki Tae saw Lee Wan with the girl, proceeded…
Jealousy itself isn't considered an emotion but those which lead to the general term "jealousy". Feelings like fear, anger and sadness. At least this is something I heard from a side of a psychologist. I think what I wanted to convey didn't properly come across. They are kinda playful but in the end to me it still feels like a slight unnecessary quarrel. And with the scene at the end I just don't want there to be a poorly written fight just for the cause of it.
To get a good kissing scene and not some dead-fish kiss; I take it! The jealousy thing is something that annoys me all the time but it seems to be something Korean? I heard that Korean men supposedly easily get jealous. And here I sit and think "well, how about proper communication then?". I think there's never been a time when I or my partner felt jealousy because...if it was this case we shouldn't have had this relationship and I always come back to this thought when I see this happening in BL's or any series which includes romance. It's....a tiny bit annoying but well. Let's see what will happen next :/. I don't want any bs right at the end.
I think there is one special tattoo on Din’s hands (in the OST) which Ken will realise it’s him straightaway…
But there weren't any tattoos on Lue's hands when he was in the shower, if I saw it correctly. But I'm not too sure. I'm still a bit confused by the story but due to the subs which got a bit better, I can enjoy the story a bit more. Even though it's still weird in some parts.
By now I really understand why international viewers (just as I am) are pissed. I mean...there's about no real chance to watch this here in Europe and why isn't it accessible on youtube? I rated the series based on its content by now and not on how badly accessible it is (like some other users apparently did) but I'm close to dropping this series. This is pretty sad and it's kinda unfair towards the actors. They worked hard and in the end there's this backlash just because the publisher couldn't manage to find a way to let everyone around the world watch the series. Thus my disappointment is directed towards the company :(.
Maybe I'm too critical when it comes to Korean series. But the damsel in distress or the ignorance on mental health is...frustrating to see. Especially for the latter one I wish IF they already put it in the series they should do it properly. To me it feels that the characters are still brushing things off or just letting Dal say things like "I thought you're making things up". This is like a punch in the face to the people who actually have a split personality! And the damsel in distress is outdated since God knows when. I think this will sadly be another drop for me. I liked the general plot but these two things can't just be overlooked by me.
Even though the subs are extremely confusing and some parts of the show itself don't help either (like the "comedy" with the friends) I will continue watching this. I LOVE thriller BL's! Can't get enough of them thus I won't give up on this one!
