im on episode 35, im still wondering what is the reason Lishan doesnt support Empress Dowager to become an emperor?…
Concentrate on Ye Li’s conversation with the empress towards the end.

On The First Jasmine 26 days ago
After The Story of Ming Lan, it seems almost impossible for writers to craft something akin yet distinct, without whispers of plagiarism trailing behind.

That masterpiece set a high bar: a couple bound by devotion, always present when the other faltered, and a political tapestry woven with balance rather than dominance.

This drama carries a similar fragrance. The writer dared to touch upon mental illness, a subject silenced in ancient times, and deserves praise for empowering women without diminishing men.

Complaints of the male lead’s absence feel misplaced, for what we were given was not abundance of his scenes, but richness of script. Just as Ming Lan chose its heroine over the clang of war, so too does The First Jasmine choose intimacy over spectacle.

Yet, like many C-dramas, the supporting threads fray. Ye Li’s uncle’s tale dissolves unfinished. Her sister’s devotion rings hollow. The prince’s endless hunger for the throne lacks conviction, as do the motives of those who follow him. The Dowager Consort’s arc fades without closure. Even Ye Li’s sister’s illegitimacy lingers unresolved.

The romance, too, stumbles. Ye Li and Yao’s intimacy is clouded by contradictions, her youth deemed too tender for motherhood, yet not too tender for passion. No mention of consequence, no reckoning with reality. The aphrodisiac scene, meant to ignite tension, instead falters: how can one tell a drugged lover “we can discuss it tomorrow” and then proceed to sleep with him and nothing happens?

And then, the ending. A K-drama flourish without resonance, a finale that fades rather than burns.

Too often, C-drama writers falter at the last step, unable to leave us with the thunder of a true crescendo. Few know how to go out with a bang.

Still, despite its flaws, despite its dangling threads and muted climax, I give it a 10/10. For its uniqueness. For its captivating spirit. For daring to be enough, even when imperfect.

It’s a drama I would watch again like I have others I love.

Did you end up finishing it?I loved it. Currently watching my dearest and wonder if it’s related.
Finish it, it’s worth it, especially if you don’t watch it with 2026 expectations.

The first 10 episodes are confusing, and I feel the story only really gets going after that, so if you make it…
Thanks.

Not really. The editing is rough at first, but it gets much better. It's a fun, lighthearted drama with more comedy…
Thank you.

why ??her dramas are good
I don’t know why, she never seems to capture my attention long enough to finish her projects, and fails in emotional expression, I see one expression from her, that gets slightly different. Also, she seems to be more careful than relaxed and going with the flow of the script.

Gosh from the trailer there were too many women for my liking.

Wonder how our FL will navigate that army of women 😂

Thought the same as well. Just in this one FL is a reporter and in one the woman, FL is a prosecutor.
Yes, I’m not currently feeling this one yet.
