All I will say is that, Chinese scriptwriters and directors, have been so used to write long stories and direct many episodes, that they have been struggling to adapt to the new rule of 40 or less episodes, which I suspect is the reason the government had to relax that rule.

A fast pace for long form content on costume dramas has been their weakness.

It ruins good storytelling and waste talent.

The actors did a great job though, I will give it a 10/10.

It’s impossible that there wasn’t harem fights, when these women back then didn’t have much to do except trying to get favour from the emperor.

You do know that they even married half siblings and cousins early on to keep royal blood intact.

His death here didn’t feel real, I thought it was a scheme at first.

There aren’t many episodes to develop their characters, since we have about 7 left now.

Maybe if it was a 40 episode (or more) drama there would. Would have loved to see the first sister happy in her marriage.

It’s a good thing that this drama has 30 episodes, I think the writers would have messed it up is longer.

If you remember when she stopped herself from stabbing her father, she said she wanted to see him lose everything.

Now it’s like the writers forgot that script, when Shen Run was asking her to wait.

I also did not expect her to actually go through with it. Even so, the misunderstanding made no sense to me and felt like the writers simply wanted to include a clichéd misunderstanding arc. It did not match their earlier behaviour or the understanding they had of one another, particularly after his true identity was revealed. They came very close to ruining everything, although thankfully it did not last long.
