I read on twitter that it’s the grandmother because she didn’t know that he is the son of the dead one, and wanted to spite the current emperor because he didn’t send help for his brother, ML’s father.

Has she fallen in love plainly in this drama yet? To see if the transitioning will be different from her other dramas?

If you’ve watched enough historical dramas, you will find many reasons why he would do that.

Also, go back to the episode of their first conversation when he got back. You find a hint there.

So far, I’m convinced it’s him, until something else triggers me to think otherwise.

His love doesn’t seem genuine to me either. Loos like an act.

Even his face say trickster.

For me, it’s his facial expressions that gave it away.

No definite answer yet. I think he did. Novel readers say it’s the grandmother, empress dowager.

Those who think too much of themselves struggle with it, she seems like a cautious person. She wants to be a great actress but has limits to certain things, hence she’s been picking the same roles, where romance (intimacy part) is little to none.

The emperor is definitely the master mind behind the misfortune and poisoning.

This is the reason her dramas dismally fail midway, after confessing love and submitting to her husband, she fails the emotional transitioning of what comes with being naturally being in love.
