Think of it like alternative version of their reality. Only Dou Zhao and Ji Jian Ming knows of their deaths and life restart. Dou Zhao knows some facts of future that help her to make right business decisions and avoid some troubles like ex-husband or sister's and her mother's machinations.
Main struggle here is multiple names of same char. Other is quite simple to understand (beside ep. 19 or smth like that with Song Mo's family dark past).
