Choosing to be willfully ignorant of cultural relevance doesn’t negate what was indeed a phenomena of word of mouth. I’ve only watched modern cdramas, I’ve never seen a “republican era” drama, sounds serious business lol I do love well-done angst so maybe it’s time to throw myself into the fire💁♀️ but I first have to watch top dramas like “Till the End of the Moon” (I saw it’s your fav on your page, I looved Hidden Love too🤧) or “Love Between Fairy and Devil” or “Love Like the Galaxy”.. you know, to go back a bit more in time to adjust for what c-drama land can offer XD. LOL I think I completed QoT because of the antics, which Park Ji-eun is amazing at, but here it was like watching a well edited NatGeo documentary on monkeys.. but rich ones XD with a low status monkey entering the pack, you don’t know why you’re watching it but you do, like you keep thinking “fr they be like that”, but then you remember like nothing. I feel ya💛and I agree it's a very good gateway drug to kdramas, I also recommended it to people and they come back with crazy eyes, like gimme moar, ahaha I love it when it happens. My fav part about CLOY was also the North Korean part, it was absolute perfection with comrades, him hiding her, cohabiting, trying to protect her, smuggling her to safety, him almost giving his life to protect her, caring and falling in love etc etc. You know, the scene where FL first sees the North Korean village lighting up, I was like: I loove this and got fully invested, but later half, after FL returning to South Korea was a bit meh because of her chaebol-ness, and I kinda dropped the drama and but completed it later, so it never came to be a fav for me. Gosh I wished she was like another hard-working person equally like the ML, not too crazy rich and it would’ve had more heart to the last half and wouldve been absolute perfection without her weird caricature family. I heard about King 2 Hearts, but it sounds meh lol
I find “What Comes After Love” sad but in a very beautiful way lol.. it’s really amazing, so do check it out! The acting is on point, film-esque cinematography and the overall vibe is perfection. It’s full of feels, but there’s cuteness too, so not too heavy. I only watched 2 eps, and I became a bit too invested lol, couldn’t bring myself to watch the 3rd, so waiting for 4th tomorrow to binge, can't wait eeks😬I also pray for a good ending.

LOL saying “Korea is full of fangirls” is such a reductive statement to make, you’re stereotyping general Korean public sentiments to be equal of the lesser percentage of fangirls, which is wrong. Also International fandoms are way bigger and profitable for Korean entertainment than their own fangirls. In Korea, mostly school girls are "die hard fans" and being a fangirl is looked down upon by general public like every other country.
General public, which is obviously bigger than fangirls, judge dramas or movies for what they are and always on the lookout if the actors are acting properly, which is their job anyways, and always call out shitty acting/발연기(foot acting) no matter how popular the actor is. I also don’t care about their private lives too, if I truly like their acting then I follow their work, 'cause I enjoy watching good actors.
FYI Yoo Jae-suk is not an actor, he’s a comedian/variety TV host, and definitely the most known and loved celebrity overall in Korea, any Korean person will know him and respect his opinions compared to some random actor or oppar. Nah I'd say the opposite, South Korea has more objective view for their entertainment and is critical in a fair manner and points out terrible acting no matter how pretty the oppar is, where's the typical international viewers are the ones who are super young die hard fangirls for oppars.
South Korean general public doesn't normally like high school romcoms but this drama was an exception, people like Yoo Jae Suk who rarely talks about dramas made appreciating points and said he doesn't really complete dramas but he couldn't take his eyes off this.

Agree like totally with you on QoT, it was too makjang and not even the good kind. Everyone hyped it to the skies, so I was expecting more but it was soo meh. SAME!! I didn't like them both 'cause they were such caricatures and didn't feel real for a second, like am I suppose to care about these rich weirdos? lmao.. and I only saw overcoming awkwardness, not the chemistry that everyone was saying that was soo out of the world... CLOY on the other hand for me had a really great immersive storyline, first half was like SO damn fun with amazing world building, even the second leads were cool, plus THE Hyun Bin and Son Yejin was amazing with their chemistry. I want like a mature melodrama with them again and I also wish there were more North X South stories,, a gal can dream.

Queen of Tears made me lose all interests in early episodes when the ML was like "can't wait for you to die lel” when he found out FL's disease (what was she dying from, can't remember I have amnesia lol).
