Isnt the fourth kid that Shuyi?
This kind of system is embedded in my mind because as an overseas Chinese, every single Chinese family in our community in the country we are residing using the same system. Maybe most of our forefathers left Mainland right after imperial era so they didn't get the memo of the new system....hahahahahaha.....

Btw, you mentioned that Daddy Xiao got 7 wives. There is a possibility XBC got 2 older brothers who didn't live long that's why he is Lao San/San Ge. My 4th uncle died at the age of 8 and his "position" is vacant. No one called 4th uncle in my family.

From what I understand, Japanese don't learn the real history in their school unlike us so they really got no idea about the atrocity their forefathers committed during WW2.

Because I’m also a Chinese, haha. My grandma from Santou birthed 10 kids, 6 boys and 4 girls. Firstborn was a girl, second was a boy which is my dad and he is called Lau Da. The Lau Er and so on were not addressed in that actual birth order. Also when us the nieces and nephews addressed our aunts and uncles also the same. My 3rd aunt was the 5th child by birth order but we called her San Gu because she’s the third daughter (got 2 jie jie)

Republican era drama is one of the most tragic and the most glamorous at the same time. The most tragic because it was not that long ago so it's quite relatable and some people who experienced it first hand are still alive. The most glamorous because the mixed between west and east cultures.

Another wartime Cdrama that I love is Battle of Changsa. Darn!! The devastation of the time was depicted vividly with outstanding casts and I got sick from too much crying after I finished that drama.

In Chinese culture, they rank their children differently. For example, if the first and 4th born child are girl, the 2nd and 3rd born are boy then boy ranks 1st son and 2nd son while the girl will rank 1st daughter and 2nd daughter. That is why I was asking where were Lau Da and Lau Er, since XBC is Lau San.

There is a possibility that international snail mail wasn't working during the time of Sino-Japanese war or during war in general. Even took months for passenger ship from China to USA.

Republican and ancient setting dramas always have high body count and most of the time, sad ending. It's a realistic outcome given the premise of the situation at that time. Also the Chinese love their tragedy...haha.

At least she is coming back with their son and they will reunited for sure. He is a high ranking officer, it's impossible to overlook such person.

I'm Chinese but don't know how to read and write in Chinese. My conversational Mandarin is passable.

Shawn got noticed in Princess Agents and got many offered and filmed a couple of drama that didn't see the light of the day. He doesn't have much promotion and never attended any events. IF he didn't dates Laurinda, I doubt his drama will aired (no offense, publication is everything as an actor. Bad publication, IS a publication). Maybe the reason he won't takes a BF role anymore is out of consideration for Laurinda. Their relationship is pretty serious.

This drama plot is a typical Chinese novel story line. Domineering possessive handsome powerful Alpha ML and pure ethereal strong but weak FL. They got together with one sided love or no love at all and when their feeling started to grow, SFL/SML will cause many many misunderstanding. AND the CP will never communicate properly. After that they will separated and come back together. That's the formula....hahahaha...

If you watch Cdrama (especially olden days setting) and you aren't Chinese. One thing you need to keep in mind that Chinese aren't the most romantic people in the world. Love isn't the priority, duty and honor is the priority. So prepare yourself for the sad ending since Cdrama CP rarely got happy ending.

After/during Covid, Covid started October 2019.

This is a good drama with everything great but choked full with romance tropes that considered as toxic relationship in modern time. I enjoy and appreciate the production but at the same time I can see that the romance between the leads are difficult to swallow. But again, I can understand since this drama is set during olden days where Lao San as an Alpha Male with military background to boot and HJ as an advanced Mary Sue were common.

Republican drama is my fav drama because of the glamour at that time is just stunning. From houses and qipao are gorgeous.
