YY miscalculated his strategy in saving YD's life because he didn't counted on her feelings. He forgot that saving YD isn't the same as fighting in a war. He did not expect that she will be in such despair to the point of throwing out her own life down the bridge after his rejection. Hence he went off the rails by asking for punishment of love and protecting her memory with his life, in the public some more as a declaration of his love to her.
Added salt to the wound he had to face the reality of her unable to cross the river and he had to personally rooted out her love for him. He really the consequences of his action to the max.
I have to put out my 2 cents of how different YY and YD are.
After she gave her literal heart to him and mistaking he had mistakenly took her as ZhiXi, she was stewing in her misery when YY visited her and trying to figure out the real situation. When YY who is so perceptive finally sure of who the "culprit" was, he gave her a chance to came clean with almost a point blank question. But for the love of her sister she deflected it by lying to his face, again point blank. YY still wanna probed further but YD dismissed him using ZX as an excuse. Still YY understood her heart and mind completely (from the over voice, we know).
Then in the Bridge of Emptiness, YD asked him point blank whether he ever loves her or not in the FULL VIEW of the Heavenly Army and he had no choice but dodging her question to save her 4$$. She completely failed to understand YY's stand. She just can't take his NO and preferred to jump off from the bridge.
Both had suffered mentally and physically during these 2 occasions, both were in the bad shaped. But how YY handled the situation showed how great a person he is.
Random comment: In LAR, CY made me think that bangs suited him more, but here TZ and YY's forehead OMG. The conclusion…
CY hits a jackpot with his styling in IS. He looks pure and godly in light colors and majestic in dark color. I'm totally floored with his dark costume when he helped YD forgets her feeling for him. His loose hairdo with a simple hairpin is to die for too.
I have to say that biggest cut of this drama goes to his styling....
PHJ has great stage presence. Maybe his height helps to look imposing. He was amazing as Poong Baek, the emotion and suffering portrayed amazingly. His eyes conveyed a lot. JKJ is a great CP too, she has a natural acting and very expressive, totally great for a comical role and melo as well. She switches from comical to melo in a blink.
So many underrated casts in this drama. Even the young lady shaman is outstanding. I hope they will be given more opportunities.
