The best thing about this series is when they broke the 4th wall and admitted the screenwriter sucks. Because the only way to create drama was to have the characters do the dumbest things to keep the couple apart. First it was the tired trope of the man forcing the woman to leave her lover in order to save him. Thus putting herself in a situation she's not happy with. But then, they double down on the dumb by not having them talk to each other like adults to clear up miscommunication. If it's one thing I hate it's the miscommunication trope.
Like, she started out a badass survivor, ten steps ahead of her enemy, then she's been reduced to a simpering woman, destined to choose the worst life for all the wrong reasons. Like, I know you haven't been shown to mourn for your daughter, or even have flashbacks, but is this what she died for? For you to live a life worse than before? Just stupid.
Oh girl is supposed to be a celestial being and the first thing she does when she gets to be human is be cruel, vengeful and petty. She's punishing him for things he hasn't even done yet, but did she bother to wonder why he became evil? Ppl like her did that to him.
I don't blame dude from keeping that same energy when he had the upper hand. She's mad at him for becoming evil, but look at how easy it was for her to be the same.
Well, I'm only on EP. 2 so, let's see how this tale evolves.
She's your typical FL meek character where she is super nice to everyone, doesn't stand up for herself, apologizing…
Exactly. Characters like that get on my nerves. A spine, get one. That's how I feel. She's your perpetual damsel in distress that the ML must rescue from all the bad things and ppl in her life because she's incapable of doing the bare minimum for herself.
Now, the ML has my interest. And even the SFL as the bad girl is carrying the story. Not the boring FL.
She's your typical FL meek character where she is super nice to everyone, doesn't stand up for herself, apologizing…
I love a despicable villain. I love to see them try to desperately to get the man or woman who can't stand them. I love seeing them struggle with their obsession and lose. So her personality is fun to me because her downfall will be epic.
And I agree FL clothes are the worst. They look as boring as her personality.
What I found annoying in this as well as Marry My Husband original is when the FL discovers ML had a fiance, she acts as if he did her wrong.
Like, excuse me miss, he did try to tell you several times and you either interrupted him or said you didn't want to pry/know. But when the bombshell is dropped, she wanna act like he lied to her.
And even after he explained the situation, she still wants to feel like she was wronged.
Look lady, you returned 5 year in the past in this version and so did he. Both of you have baggage. He helped you try to get rid of yours while handling his on his own. So, you can calm down your self-righteous outrage.
So far I hate everything about the female characters. And I don't get why ML is attracted to FL. Is it her submissiveness?…
She's your typical FL meek character where she is super nice to everyone, doesn't stand up for herself, apologizing for everything because she's so timid and she just isn't like all the other chicks.
Her personality is just that, typical of that type. They always make them dull, quiet, timid, zero fashion sense so that she's almost a blank slate who can blossom once she knows the love of a good man.
Like you, I find her boring. You can be nice, sweet, see the best in people and STILL stand your ground, speak up for yourself and have style. If they had gone that route, I would have liked her more.
Okay, I finished it. Now, if there is one thing she's going to do in this series is get captured. And if there is another thing that will happen, is he is going to have to race to save her.
I'm must be the oddball here because I love the jealous, obsessed wannabe lovers trope. I love seeing how unhinged a person will become, how devious and violent when they want the ML or FL, even if they have to force them to be with them. I love seeing them get disappointed, go mad, lose their shit when they can't get their way. So, I'm looking forward to that.
I believe it was a deliberate choice to pay homage to the manhua "Chang Ge Xing" it was adapted from &…
It's def. A mixture of slow burn and enemies to lovers. I did like the fact that the situation with the emperor was very different from what I'm used to seeing. But this was one series where I had to do a lot of skipping..
yeah same, I totally agree with your opinion.after watching "be yourself", i watched something similar…
I really hope Be Yourself gets a S2. He wasn't even trying to hide how powerful she was and when he showed out, he showed OUT. I loved that. I'll take a look at that other series you mentioned. Thanks for the rec.
I'm okay with the reborn revenge plot. Some have been really good. But what pisses me off about this one is the FL thinking she's the smartest person in the room and acting as if she hasn't needed to be saved by the ML time and time again. Her hot and cold attitude towards him is annoying.
I actually want him to let her deal with her own problems for once and see how she gets out of trouble then with no fighting skills. That was one of the things I loved about Cruel Romance. Ol girl didn't appreciate him and he let her learn some of her lessons the hard way. I said some because he was still helping her ungrateful ass out.
I happened to like shows with premises like this. That's why I really enjoyed "Be Yourself" but this is not that. The ML lacks charm, charisma and I think he's uttered maybe 10 lines in the whole series thus far. All he does is smirk and let the women talk for him. I find him boring and the few instances where he's shown how powerful he is are few and far between. Him still hiding his true identity is a tired ass trope and really makes no sense. It's as if the writers are so pathetic, they can't come up with another plot device to further the paper thin plot other than that.
I had hopes this would be a series where the badass is just kicking ass and taking names and I was okay with the harem of women fawning over him. I watch Anime, I'm used to that nonsense. But this is failing me.
After episodes 19 , misunderstanding and patch up and then prince An manipulate FL , she believes him then breakup…
The issue with her is she acts like she has to avenge her master when she doesn't even need her masters warning. Her master told her to lives Duke An alone. To stay away from him and she acts like she never heard those words. She's constantly going to him, allowing him to romanticize her when she knows it upsets her husband. Her behavior is indecent even in these modern times. That is the most annoying thing to me about her. They want to make her daring and adventurous with a strong since of justice, but she just comes off as troublesome and gullible.
Watched this for ZZH; it's a shame he was blacklisted at the time his career was rising. Despite that, I'm surprised…
I get you about the FL and her sister. At times they are insufferable, especially her. Like, her masters dying words were for her to leave Duke An alone and she acts like that never happened because she is always spending time with him even when she knows her master didn't trust him nor does her husband. But let another woman come smiling at him and she's gets an attitude and wants to throw tantrums. I don't like her double standard and can't wait for her to experience the betrayal of Duke An first hand. Since she never bothered to heed the warnings of ppl who love her.
As for her sister, she's another self righteous, know it all, that likes to waggle her finger at everyone, ep. The 2ML. Sometimes, I'm okay with her, but others, she works my nerves. Especially when that coyness.
Well, currently watching, on EP, 23, because I was in the mood for some scheming mofos. Some obsessed ppl trying to claim who don't belong to them. So far, it's giving me what I want.
But I also hate stupid characters and characters who don't do the most common sense shit to avoid drama.
1. The Ruyi leader could have told her why she shouldn't trust Duke An. She didn't even have to go into details, just some things could have been revealed. She knew how stubborn and stupid her disciple was. Because even though she tried to make her promise to leave that man alone and run away when you see him, which was the last thing she warned her about, the FL STILL ignored the warning and continues to trust a man her master begged her not to trust. So much for being honorable, so gets what she asks for when that betrayal comes a knocking because she was warned.
2. ML Duke Su, could have told her about his encounter with her Master at any time after saving her from certain death. At least she would have had his side of the story. Instead, he didn't say anything knowing everything that was going down.
3. FL could have asked him about that day instead of taking everyone's word for him being the murderer, even the word of the man her master begged her not to hang out with over her man who risked everything to save her. She pissed me off with that shit. When your goofy ass was accused of murder, and superficial evidence pointed to you, he didn't even doubt you for a min. But here your ass is, quick to turn feral. You better never doubt him again for the rest of you life!
4. Duke An is a POS for wanting to blame a 12 year old child for the death and cover up for his mother. I want to see him unravel when shit just doesn't go his way.

Like, why are you apologizing for leaving that dinner early? Just say you were tired and ready to go home. You don't owe them anything.
Now, the ML has my interest. And even the SFL as the bad girl is carrying the story. Not the boring FL.

I stand by what I said. I don't feel like he was wrong. But others are free to blame him if they want. I don't.
