I was still so impress with it, I even did a drawing on it. I couldn't let go of the movie in my head. So I went ahead and watched 3 Iron because it was the next one that caught my eye of all his movies. Then, I fell in love with it. After it I went searching for the same feeling in his other movies, I watched Samaritan Girl and didn't really like the story although I understand why others rave over it, but it wasn't for me. Recently I watched Time, mainly because of Ha Jeong Woo who is next to Lee my most favorite actor in Asia. I love the guy. Anyway, I didnt know it was a Kim's movie until way into the movie when all these weird, and incongruent things were happening and I had to search for the director to find out my hunch was right LOL. I havent seen anything else, but Breath is one on my list because, again, Ha Jeong Woo. ;)

Reason why years ago when my mother and I were coming to US my dad refused to come. Because over there he was a public figure, and he was allow to travel the world because of his job. Here he wouldn't have made it, first, the English would have been a barrier, but now that Hispanics have a decent place in Hollywood, still, my dad does not look Hispanic at all. LOL. He looks Caucasian, one of those rare things. Hahaha. Yep, it would have been the end of his career. Luckily he is content with his life over there, and he is more than happy with the route his career took over the years. Before Lee my dad is one man I admire wholeheartedly, because of the things he was able to achieve still, under the regiment. Amazing.
Of Kim, the first movie I watched was Dream (Bi-mong) because of Weirdagiri (Odagiri Joe) and although I didnt like that it was so weird I couldnt understand fully...

I do see your point about the anti-American sentiment in relation to Japan vs Korea. I still feel like we see the same deal in different countries hahaha. But I do agree that the feeling can be seen world-wide. Not only I have heard this negative comments towards 9/11 by Koreans, but my ethics teacher in college also shared how in her native country, most people felt that way. I come from a country that completely hates on American, constantly, every minute. But I have seen both sides of the coin, and I just don't agree on some of the hate we get from other countries. It has no factual base. But anyway... politics. *shudders*
My dad is actually pretty old by now, he is 65, he retired from working at the actors union (he was some sort vice president or something. I have no clue, I havent lived with him for years) but he still makes movies, mostly Venezuela, France, or Italy.

But my point is, actors cant always give us what we expect from them, either because of the moment we approach them, or because the times they are going through that we dont know about, etc... maybe because of this reason I never was the type to stalk my actors, not personally. I saw Kevin Bacon (another fav) in Central Park NY, and I didn't ask him for an autograph, my friends almost killed me lol. I didnt because he was with his daughter. I didnt want to intrude. I respect actors personal time very much. As a result I tend to crush on them, but never really care to meet them. I keep it unrealistic LOL.
I dont know, that's just how I see it.
In the other hand, I was madly in lust with J the bass player from Luna Sea, a Japanese rock band. And if I ever see him in person I will probably have to touch him somehow. LMBO.

My parents are actors. Well, my mother really isnt any longer, but my dad still is. He is actually popular, and also directs, writes, all the deal. Mind you, not in the US lol. In Cuba, my birth country. I grew up in the back of a theater stage practically, and all my parents friends were in the entertainment business. I think the only movie that actually made it to Hollywood was Fresa y Chocolate. The main lead actor was invited, of course, to the Oscars, and after that he was so popular in Cuba he couldnt even walk out of his house LOL.
But my dad (in particular) is popular in a different scale. Still, I remember people approaching us and sometimes not approaching but screaming his name from far away like he is supposed to shout back LOL. Not all the time my dad was overly friendly, he was never rude or mean, because that is his job as well, please the fans.

Robert de Niro is one of my favs in the western world. He seems to be super cool. I don't know, but even when they are acting, actors tend to settle and pick roles based on their likes and ideals. So when you connect with an actor for what he has to offer "acting-wise" you could probably connect with him in person as well. Of course, not always will be the case. And it all has to do with time (lol again I mention time) I mean, as you have clearly said, they are humans just like us, not perfect 2 dimensional creatures, so they are bound to be upset at one point in their day or week, or month, lol... if you happen to meet an actor in their worst moment that day then you will get a bad impression of the actor, but not because he is a jerk all together but because he had a moment. It happens.

3 Iron is one of my favorite movies as well. We do have more than Lee in common ^^
Have you seen any of Kim's other works? I have watched a few of them, and still, 3 Iron is the best one.

Anyway, that there are many Koreans that aren't like this. Of course. I'm not putting them all in the bunch, but that there is some resentment there is. Many of my friends that have been there because of Military duties have told me so.
And because I don't really want to keep giving you my political views (which is far beyond this I have said, we will never stop talking lol) I just try to overlook (the best I can) when they say something stupid about Americans in a Korean drama. Because I love their shows. One thing has nothing to do with the other. But I just thought Lee's words in the interview were triggered by all of these ideas.
The other words about his father werent on an interview I watched, I read them on a blog which sadly is not open anymore. They closed it down.
But he spoke very well of his father. *sigh* I can never get tired of talking about him. lol.

maybe you haven't paid attention, but they always say something negative about Americans. But then again, half the world does, so its not really a good example LOL.
Another example and one that is more personal, is that of my military friends. Some of them are 10 to 20 years older than me, they have been to Korea in their youth because of the NAVY, and also some more my age have been to Korea and were station there during 9/11. More than one has told me how the majority of the Koreans expressed negative words like they were firm believes Americans got what they deserved... beyond any political view, I have to say that whoever rejoices in the death of innocent humans has got to be one twisted or very hateful person. My only conclusion is that, because they are so angry with the American troops being there, they express themselves in hateful words.

LOL. Actually I have a different impression than you. I think Japanese are more friendly towards Americans. I'm talking politics here. There is a fine line between them in that aspect because of WWII, but I have watched films and seen documentaries in which they actually speak good about Americans in a political sense.
Whereas Korean... the biggest example and more recent I can give you is of the singer PSY. After hitting it big in US and then the entire world, it came to light that he had previously wrote a song and sang it which speaks of hate towards Americans, this happened because of another incident which is not clear if it is true or not, that involves American troops and two Korean teens. You have to google it, is too long and dreadful for me to write now.
Another example is how Koreans always have something negative to say in their dramas about US. Always.

LOL... it is the first scene when he is informed there is a disturbance in the club. He is eating chocolate fudge and the way he shows his annoyance and frustrations is so simple yet accurate, my mouth dropped to the floor. LOL. What great acting.

First, Ill be too nervous to have any kind of normal and eloquent conversation with him. Second, I'll stop fantasizing about him, because he will be right there in front of me, and that will either make things too actual, or too surreal. I think they go hand in hand at that point.
I rather admire him from far, and be happy for his success in his career and in love.

Oh wow. Didn't know you were an intense fan of Lee. I used to call him Byunghoney, and still do some times, but I like to use his last name just to show more respect for this man I admire.
My friends have asked me if I was sad he married, or if I would want to meet him and date him (things like, is he your ideal man and so on) I have said NO to all. I'm not sad he married, I'm overjoyed, because it is hard to be alone in this world. He deserves love, and I hope he can be happy with her forever. I never really thought I could meet him, because I don't navigate the entertainment world, and I'm not the kind of fan that goes to events in which the actors show up to sign autographs, etc. I think it's a combo of cowardice and practicality. Which is a rare combo I admit. But I have come to think on the matter more, and I have concluded I really don't want to meet Lee.

Well, if you see Byung Hun don't doubt yourself and go for it. He does seems to be humble. I have read his words in reference to his father, and present family and I have to say he amazes me.
Recently I watched an interview in which he was encouraging Korean actors to learn English and break the boundaries, and take their careers to a higher level. Basically hinting at the love/hate relationship that Koreans have with Americans (they always seem to be hating on Americans, but still try to make it in Hollywood) so Lee approached this subject very lightly and with few words, but it just gave me the impression that behind his measured words was the intention of pushing his fellow actors to go further despite any kind of cultural barrier. I fell in love all over again. This man is wise, and carries himself with humbleness which is admirable. I just really look up to him.

I have watched Happy Together, which is another drama that is old, and Lee plays the male lead although, it is not about him getting the girl, but about bringing a family together. Another happy drama, overall. He has others which I have no clue if he plays tragic roles or not. But like I was saying, it all comes down to the time in which his career is standing. Lots of blockbuster films, very seldom dramas if any. On the plus side, he is a big star internationally, and that makes me more proud of him. :)
My favorite work of Lee (drama and film together) has to be A Bittersweet Life. If he had me hooked in 2004 with his Addicting stare LOL, he had me hooked in ABL with the chocolate fudge pause. WOW. I thought: now, this is what is call acting. I guess you would have to see it again, don't know if you remember details, but that first scene was bombastik.

I dont remember the ending to All In, but I have been under the impression he did get the girl in the end? Im not sure.
All of this is true in present times. But fact is Lee has an impressive amount of dramas done, just go to his list on dramawiki and youll see he started with dramas and has a bunch under his belt, just too old to be in any streaming site. Even one of his best dramas, Beautiful Days is not around anymore. I had to buy it which was not a big sacrifice. LOL. Beautiful Days is your typical romance melo, and it has no tragic ending. Lee plays the male lead.
All in all, it comes down to not only the age of the general drama watchers, but the time in which his career is standing. Right now he is a Hollywood star, so it is very improbable he will be making dramas. IRIS he was still making the first GIJoe.
