Normal people don't jump to such conclusions, they ASK. Hers was an insane behavior. If I was in his shoes i would not be so nice about it, I would think it was a red flag.

That makes 2 of us, and I agree that online, and unsupervised, and not being taught to protect themselves, and dearth of real (not fictional) positive male models around, and other things have made the whole thing go wild.
Hidden Love is a c-drama based on a book. It tells a story of a 14 year old who falls in puppy love with her older brother's friend. The friend is 6 years older than she is, he doesn't see her as a love interest at all, he treats her as a younger sister. But she is really in love and still is after several years, though she never speaks about it. They meet again when she is in university, 20 years old, and slowly he falls in love with her too. The drama is squeaky clean. There is no suggestion, even a shadow of impropriety or any sort of him having designs on her when she is a teen. But the outcry, the hysterics, the accusation it elicited from very many people could rival this one. Just the fact that he knew her as a teen made him into a major creep in their eyes. It seems Asian cultures have so many prohibition on what they consider allowed relationships, I am astonished anyone ever finds a partner 😄

I am on ep 9, is she crazy? What is wrong with her, and also with her cynical friend? Even if he did have a child how is it a insult to her, and how does it make him a creep? Her behavior was so idiotic and obnoxious I almost stopped watching.

My major point is - we DON'T KNOW what happened. Sure, courts are no guarantee that truth and nothing but will come to light , but it is the best we have. I don;'t like mob justice and so called 'court of public opinion' - in my experience it is more often wrong than right, and especially the internet kind.
It is human nature to look for a fall guy as an outlet for frustration with what is wrong in a society, and lately the target has been rich and popular men . It is like an open season on them. Also the whole thing with 'grooming' is a latter-day obsession: do you remember the off the chart brouhaha about Hidden Love ? Some even managed to accuse the drama of grooming. Sorry, this conversation seems to have no end. Lets just drop it.

Dating someone years younger is weird to many people. There are some people on this board who find any age difference between lovers, be it a woman who is older, or a man, to be sick and perverse. That is their opinion, but that is not a crime.
People here accuse him of a CRIME. That is a very different thing. I am not Korean, but from what I glimpsed in Korean drama, people there accuse others of being responsible for things that boggles my mind. She killed herself, that was her decision alone and we don't know what or who contributed to her decision, no matter how much we want to find someone else to blame. Maybe him not responding contributed to her decision to kill herself, maybe she was in a unbalanced state of mind, we don't know. But regardless, it doesn't make him a killer, we have no idea what was really going on, we just know what the tabloid said. The ease with which people here call him trash , wish him dead is appalling to me, and scary. As I said several times before: we don't really know what was really happening. And because we don't know I am not going to blame.

You are giving automatic credence to the accusations, and none to their rebuttals. To my mind, that is bias. And that is why I said that nothing he says would change people's mind. That is the reason why slander is such a horrible thing to do to someone, people don't want to change their bad opinions, like someone on this thread who had told me they would never be proven wrong.
I don't know what happen between them, but let me ask you, her mother claims they had a relationship when she was 15. How does she know? Did she witness it back then when her daughter was 15? If that is the case what in hell was she doing back then not protecting her daughter?!
And if she just now found 'pictures', how does she know when they were taken and by whom? Also why didn't she know what was going on? The daughter was by all accounts a 'breadwinner" for the family. What is her mothers role in all this? She announced she will show even more pictures , but after the agency statement decided not to , out of the goodness of her heart, she claims, because he is now having a nervous breakdown. That is not a behavior of a mother who knows the man molested her child, and drove her to suicide. That is a behavior of a mother who is trying to find someone to blame for her daughter . There is much more, but this is getting way too long.

I read GOLDMEDALIST statement of March 14th. They give a rebuttal to every point. I understand that many here are not willing to believe them, but as none of us have a way to verify the truthfulness of either side claims, I am not ready to condemn. Also if Goldmedalist does have meta-data on photos that shows they were taken in 2019 not 2015, it is proof that HoverLab lied about it. It also looks convincing that they didn't expect her to pay them back. Why he wasn't responding to her messages is a separate issue, but he was not going after her for money. I am not sure what evidence would convince people you think would listen. I personally have very little trust in public opinion when the subject is any kind of relationship. People project their own stuff on others too much.

I am not a Korean lawyer, so no, I didn't know that you get automatically punished for insulting someone online . If that is the case how on earth can all the gossip sites even exist?
Those with money and power do have the advantage, but what does it have to do with the why he is not talking to the media to clear his name? In the atmosphere of such mistrust of the system, the law, people with money, men, is there anything he can say to the media that would be believed? So all I can say, I am not ready to jump on the condemnation wagon.

Well, he is suing, or his agency is. If I was his attorney I would advise him to keep all the proofs for the trial, and not communicate with the media and public. SKorean public opinion space is vicious and beyond anything I have ever seen. Sure ,we have crazy fan girls in the West, but nothing on that scale and venom. I honestly find it shocking. Normal relationships are called DATING SCANDAL, every small misstep can ruin a person's life for good. She herself lost her career for a DUI, which is utterly nuts. It is intolerant and cruel culture, imo, and they like to tear people apart.

I don't believe either. I am a lawyer , to me all of this, from both sides is not evidence. Both sides have reasons to obfuscate, and even make stuff up. Also in all relationships both sides see things differently even under the best circumstances. I don't believe a word out of her mother's mouth either. The only pic I saw is a peck on the cheek. Is there a verifiable date when it was taken? I have seen many valid cases like this, and many that were drummed up. To me there is no proof one way or the other. One thing is for sure, she killed herself, and that is tragic, but I for one don't presume to know why she did it.

well, that is the root of our disagreement: you say there is proof, I don't consider what is available online as proof. To me it is all very questionable.

OK. But just as a hypothetical, what are you going to do if it is proven that the accusation of grooming is false and and the y-tuber is found guilty of slander?

S.Korea has laws agains child sexual grooming. I think it was passed in 2021 , only a year after raising the age of consent to 16 from 13! Have you seen any real proof that he was grooming a minor per their legal definition? I have not seen anything like that. Public opinion on line is often wild, vicious, and unfair. If he is really guilty of a crime, may he spent the rest of his life in prison. BUT to me a person is innocent until PROVEN guilty.

Did he wait till she just turned legal age? Do we have any information about when they had sex , or even IF they had sex? I saw no proof of it one way or the other - have you? If people denounce him for having a relationship with someone much younger than he is, that is their right to have an opinion, but accusing a person without any proof of committing a CRIME is a very different thing. .

I think I have become a little allergic to Chinese drama parents, even to the nice ones. She is 27 years old! Is there an expiration date on meddling, scheming and generally butting in? I think most non Asian kids would run away from home screaming. FL is enchanting though, she sparkles, and is so playful! I fell in love with the actress in the Forbidden Flower, have not seen her since. They both FML and ML are a delight to watch.
