Da Yu and Chengwu are so, so lovely. Their little moments during New Year were precious. The consideration, acceptance for each other, along with the openness ... it really is beautiful. They have instances of hidden affection, and I love that the camera only gently lingers on them when those happen - it feels like a small peek into their mutual longing, particularly Chengwu's hesitant and growing feelings
the only bad thing about this drama is the subtitles. i wish more people would watch this one as it has a warming…
Mango TV uploads better subs on youtube after the drama ends / close to its ending, as far has been my observation with two of their dramas that aired this year. I'm tempted to put this on pause and wait a few weeks, but I am a little too much in love with the characters to wait so long
Very sweet, but abrupt in its conflict, which it superficially addressed and resolved. However, that can be easily overlooked if one is here to see the romance develop. Could have been more if it did not limit the FL to her domestic duties - it was expected that she would be able to integrate into society through this marriage. Still three more eps left, so I hope the issue of her being a dependent is treated.
Such a good watch! I love JL, she's really charismatic as Da Yu. And her friendship with Xiao Yu and Cheng Wu is so pleasing to see. Plus Cheng Wu and Da Yu are so good together, their transition to friends to something-more is going very smoothly so far; they work together seamlessly well.
Usually I am never really involved in the second romantic pairing c-dramas are always obliged to portray, yet Lee Yao and Xiao Yu are an exception. Perhaps it is to do with the fact that Wan Peng is part of the main cast, and the relationship is instrumental to her character's development and arc. However, it also has a lot to do with Lee Yao too - I love him!!! It's so hard not to fall for his rather goofy and easy-going charm. He is straightforward and an unabashed "simp".
And then there's the portrayal of healthy rivalry, friendships, acquaintanceship that is so rooted to reality and nuanced. All in all, to see all sorts of healthy relationships pan out is always refreshing.
In the start it was implied that Gao Zheng liked men, he seemed jealous of Xu's wife, as if he liked him - or was it my misunderstanding? Anyway, when his romance started, it was pretty jarring.
Ma Si Chun is, as always, amazing. The music used is very satisfying, complements the scenes well. I am currently obsessed with the OST. Plot-wise, the balance is good. It moves between the mystery and personal life nicely. I would have been able to judge better had the subs been better, but from what I have observed, the plot is consistent, albeit with a few concerns unaddressed - for now.
