Yea its just a part of the background really. But u get interersted in it because I never seen a drama in the 80s and it is kind of a shock factor when u just see a bunch of young people chilling and talking about how they can't do things because of blockades. Insane time to live for sure

I found that cute too except for that fact that XCS kept on looking a HHL while XiaoMei was right there. Dude really thinks the girl in the library is HHL -_-. Someone please tell him its Xiaomei. I need him to do what he did for HHL and like times it by 100 for Xiaomei.

It feels like people keep adding on to XCS troubles and no one helps him except for Xiaomei. HHL also requires XCS to help her with her troubles. His brothers as well - they mean well but XCS tells them not to do anything and instead create a bigger mess than it should have been.

It really seems like XiaoMei is the only one that really helps him and never asks for anything in return from him. She is kind of like his guardian angel just waiting and watching over him and just happy for him even if it means that she can't be part of his life. It is obvious she likes him but she doesn't seem to push herself onto him even though she could.

Wow, why did they even go through this period? DId the president have a reason? Or did he just want to throw his own country back by a century? I don't see why someone would want to purge educated people and prevent people from getting educated. Did he want them to be sheep and unable to prevent him from gaining more power or something?

But seriously it seems lke Mao really brought his people back decades. No further advancement because of the fact he stopped college exams. I mean they only had 1 surgeon to do heart surgery and he was also very old. Practically halted all kinds of advancement.

Kind of figured that was the reason but the color palette is so bland - just browns, navy, white. Girls cant even wear makeup. I wonder what happens if u do wear a different color - would they arrest them or something?

Xiao Zhan really does look good in that hat - idk how that is possible but he looks good even with the brown outfits he wears lol.

I looked it up and apparently the suspended college entrance exams for an ENTIRE DECADE - so no one could go to college for 10 years. That is absolutely INSANE. It didn't start up again until 1976.

I feel a bit the same way. I wished the ML didn't like the 2nd FL at all - but he definitely is confused. He thinks the 2nd FL is the girl in the library since when he first saw her in the ice rink u see him putting the girl in the library and her and realized they were the same. And when he retells the story of how he saved the girl from the library from getting caught he keeps looking at the 2nd FL because he believes that to be her and that he found her. He even tells XiaoMei that I found the girl that I like which means he REALLY believes that she is the one.

I feel so much for XiaoMei she is too good. U can tell she has true feelings for XCS but I just wished she would tell him. I can also understand why she didn't tell him the truth - she didn't want him to fall for her because of that reason since he already fell for 2nd FL for that reason. It would feel a bit recycled? I guess

I know right. I have watched some dramas that were before the 70s and they didn't seem so strict - I know it is a drama so history can be different but clearly it seems more like the 70s were just a completely different time period. And the clothes. Like everyone is wearing military styled clothes or very "grandpa/grandma" styled outfits. Nothing vibrant or pretty. I feel like the color pink is probably banned to even wear.

The thing I like the most about this show is the history lesson I am getting about the 70s lol. Being American I just know the 70s as the bell bottom era, Nixon's Watergate, Vietnam War & soaring inflation rates. It is interesting to see how China dealt with that time period. I am still like HUH? Especially when I heard that they stopped college entrance exams. They just put all those young peoples lives on hold - the only thing they could do is either join the military or just lay around and join bicycle gangs lol.

Makes me wonder like does XCS really want to be part of the military or does he have other plans but can't follow those dreams because of the circumstances around him.

Not a lot but I feel enough to still help that friend with glasses. Even XCS gave him some money to help repair his glasses.

Ahhh okay. Yea, I thought it was strange u didn't see a single car but there were motobikes but just like the 1 or very few in general. I know here in America we did have cars back in the 70s but only a few as well (not like today where every household has like 2 at least) so it was interesting to see the difference.

Might be true. From what I am getting the place where most of these people live is like a compound of where military families live and stuff. But they seem to be living pretty well since XCS and GuoHua don't seem to work but still have enough money to buy stuff.

Lol, should do things that hurt less and can actually do for sure lol.

One thing I was confused about though was why was the ice rink like a battlefield lol. They were saying they had police and picketers and stuff.

She knows because Xiao Chunsheng is talking about the time he saved the girl he likes from getting caught in the library. Xiaomei knew someone else was in the library with her at the time but didn't know who. When he was recalling the story she realized he was talking about her and the guy that kept finding books for her was Xiao Chunsheng. However, XCS thinks the girl is the 2nd FL while she is the only one that knows the truth.

Lol, its funny to fall the first time but constantly it definitely does hurt lol. I would also start crawling on the ice to prevent that from happening
