Not really. I've only watched a handful. The latest was 'Ouran Highschool Ghost Club'. But maybe I'll get back to them someday. They have more diversity in genres than Korea. Better plots. It's only the acting that is often an issue with me.

'Who Are You'. Although if it keeps victimizing Shi On, I might not last until the end.

Thanks for yours too. Life's tough, but it goes on. How about you? We're good as long as we have dramas at least. ;)

Definitely one of my favorites. Hilarious, light, but not brainless, showing a more down to Earth depiction of attraction and dating than we get in most Korean rom-coms and kdrama, well made. I think it deserves a 10. It is not a perfect movie or a perfect romance movie, but I do not believe in perfection. It does what it set out to do the best it could be done and to me, that is the closest one can get to a "perfect" work.

I'll post a review, hopefully in the near future.

Title Diary of June Spoiler
I cannot believe his own mother could say "leave me for a little bit" ... she was the worst bystander…
That is what the movie ultimately illustrated. Bullied kids can handle a lot, if they have at least one important person to lean on.

Parents who ignore the signs of bullying are at fault, but those who don't even take interest or listen are far worse and they are the main reason a child cannot cope.

Since most works focus on the bullies or sometimes the teachers who won't help, I am glad to see a piece showing that, if the most important people in a person's life give up on them, they are the ones who can push that person over the edge.

People have relationships in Korea like they do elsewhere. Their movies don't shy away from sexuality either.

Why is it only Kdramas have these issues? They go through the censorship movies don't usually have to, that is why. Understandable given they're on TV, but the whole sexuality issue goes to extremes other things don't.

Culture is not an excuse. Korea being a patriarchal society where gender equality is still leaning way too favorably for men is a fact. Since such organizations that apply censorship are usually government operated and their members are conservative older persons, as are channel bosses, their principles and agendas control what is allowed and what isn't.

Maybe it started that way and now they just got used to doing it so, but it's still very peculiar a practice, considering what other, realistically harmful things dramas have no problem showing.

"... like a school crush".

Exactly. 8 year-olds have such romance. Not adults. Adults have sexual attraction. I don't see how denying that is cute or healthy. Just as western shows end up being "acceptable" porn, Korean shows end up being an anti-libido propaganda, where only tortured people in melodrama or evil ones can have sex.

I find both extremes irritating, especially because I know why they are as they are. It's not because of some adorable innocence of the people making them. It's because the people who control them want to control people.

In Korea's case, it's because of very much adult men (channel CEOs, censorship association etc) who are pushing prudishness to viewers because they want their women to feel being pure (untainted for them to feast on) and saving themselves for their Dear Husband are what makes a person decent. Because it suits said men.

Women like the idea of a successful rich man, because they have been brainwashed to feel doing chores and having kids should be all they should aspire to.

Women also like feeling special and one of the classic bad ways of achieving that is to think they can change a man. Because they are just so awesome. It's why women go for bad boys. They think restlessness = passion and forcefulness = love and that they're somehow superhumans who can change someone.

Of course, not all women are like that, but the Prince Charming ideal for what to look for and "pure creature" ideal for what to be like are shoved in our faces in many ways. Western societies also promote being "of loose morals" because that's what Western men are presumed to want and Asian societies promote being a sweet fragile mindless creature who needs a tough guy to keep her as his child bearing, shirt ironing machine.

Article Missed Kisses
At least they happened eventually. If the 'Salaryman' couple weren't as cute as they were together, I would not have forgiven the lack of a kiss. But they were a comedic couple, so I forgive them. Still would have been nice to have one though.

Sorry if you misunderstood. I did not mean you condone such a crime, you make it very clear in your text that you are talking about adults.

I am talking in general. As you say, the word has become a part of the fandom, but what I am saying is that I personally find it wrong. I find it in bad taste that so many fans take such a serious issue and turn it into a joke, when there is a very real problem within the same industry this refers to.

I imagine the term is not considered in any way bad, given so many people use it without any ill intentions, but it worries me. It worries me that we are, as a society, willing to accept terms and ideas without thinking about the issues they relate to and how we might be inadvertently making certain matters worse with that naivety.

Thanks for your piece and sorry for not explaining my views better.

Hello there. I'm the one from Orion's Ramblings. I do think joking about things and having fun with our fan expressions is nice, but I just feel such jokes are a bit too heavy considering the very harsh reality.

I don't think terms associated with people who rape children should be turned into jokes about an industry which is itself oversexualizing children (since teens are still that) in order to cause sexual arousal/romantic fantasies in audiences and get them to buy their products.
hallyuholicmom May 9, 2013
I do not think using a term to describe sick monsters is appropriate for a positive spin. I also think that sexually liking underage men falls into the inappropriate category. You don't like such people, as you clearly say, but many do.

I have no issues with admiring and being attracted to younger men, that is natural and between adults after all, but when one is a grown adult and gets horny over 16 year-old girls/boys, I can't see that as "nothing to be ashamed of".

The Korean industry treats its young celebrities like objects enough already, without having fans screaming over their hotness. Considering the reality of things, I just can't joke about such topics or use such terms. But then I've never been a kyaagirl. I'm more of a regular fan and composed fangirl.
