This show is SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD that it's become a problem and an impediment to completing my task list and living my every day life. I think I have to pause at ep 23 and come back in a few weeks when it's finished. The wait between episodes is brutal.

Girl. I am literally counting the minutes. I can't wait for THE SLAP. What does he say that makes her do it? Or does he say nothing and she is just *so* pissed at his disregard for her feelings and disrespect for her parents? I'm curious and sat.

He's so, so, so down bad for Xu Lan Xiang and she has NO IDEA! I almost feel sorry for her. In the coming episodes, his actions (and feelings for her) are going to seem so out-of-left-field / confusing.

I agree. And I would add that it's the combination of her education/birthright PLUS her time as a slave that makes her so distinctly situated for greatness. She is incredibly wise. With great talent comes great responsibility.

I'm 100% on team Lin Jin Qi. He's far from perfect, but the chemistry between them is fire. Plus, in my opinion, Xu Lan Xiang is SO remarkable, she / her incredible intellect and talents would be wasted on someone like Scholar Han. She will be a formidable force for good in the Lin family (not just for the Lins, but also for the entire empire).

Maybe she wants a quiet, peaceful life, but she is capable of so much more.

After episode 21, I definitely feel sorry for Scholar Han. He's such a good guy. But Lin Jin Qi is merciless and incredibly determined. Scholar Han even said to his mother that he was afraid "someone else" would beat him to the betrothal and the dude is right. Poor guy.

Have you read Amy Harmon? She has a little of everything, contemporary, historical, and fantasy. Try 'The Bird and the Sword'!! It's SO GOOD!!! If you like contemp, my favorite by her is 'Making Faces' It's a slow burn, but so poignant and lovely.

Have you read the Kingmaker Chronicals by Amanda Bouchet?? Those are quite good.

I have read Sarah J Maas ACOTAR, but not TOG (yet!!) I have the books on my shelf. I should close this app and read them. LOL!

Ep 21: Proud of the second Lin sister; and I really loved the analogy about becoming the "great ship" so the stone can become a small rock in comparison. That was lovely.

I LOVE LIZ TOMFORDE!! So talented. I have read Windy City but not TOG. Lately, I've been watching too many dramas to read (LOL!) But you make me want to pick up something from my to-be-read (TBR). ;-)

Preview for episode 26: It looks like the decree has come down for the emperor by ep. 26 (she's trying to comfort her parents about "not being enough" compared to Lin Family). So this means the wedding should happen in ep. 27 and the infamous slap (showed in the first trailer for the show) during the actual wedding ceremony.
I'm SO CURIOUS what he says during their wedding ceremony that gets him slapped.... YIKES!

I read romance, all genres: contemporary, fantasy, historical, everything. I love the assured happy endings!! (since the world is so chaotic right now). <3

I *just* posted about this subject before I read your comment. I think you're definitely on to something here...

In episode 24 preview, we see the marquis and 3rd daughter of the Lin family getting married with assassins on their way / invading the marquis's house. I think the Crown Prince is there and that's who the assassins are after. I think the ML saves the Crown Prince at this time; then the Crown Prince asks what the ML wants as a reward; the ML says he wants the emperor to bestow a marriage on him (the FL). And that's how he gets rewarded with the marriage to the FL.

So, here's my guess re: episode 24 preview and "the forced marriage" (below / spoiler)

I really enjoyed As Beautiful As You, this one, and Go Ahead.
