Good movie. Didn't shout or scream as much as the first one - but enough to have everyone else in the house to tell me to "shut up". Extremely stimulating movie and well done.

I searched all the sites I watch and found it on NETFLIX. I may have watched it on Netflix -- just don't remember which source. Sorry no on other sources.
When I wrote my comment there were 71 actors . It has been cut down to manageable choices. I voted for 10 on the in was happy the article was written. Especially when I learned it was not an EYE CANDY list - but actors based on acting skills.
thanks, i have deleted the irrelevant ones and kept it 28 people only for now. yup, this is not an eye candy list.…
Not enough time in life to watch all of these dramas - I go through phases. If I had started in 2005 - wow!! I would truly be an expert but old age has its disadvantages - short term memory is kicking in so the older ones I remember like yesterday and the newer ones - unless truly outstanding our like shooting stars.

Nope an old hand - since 2014. I have watch innumerable K dramas before switching to primary Chinese , Thai and Japanese. Drama Fever had my catalogue before disbanding. Found MDL and started tracking the dramas I watch. My favorite all time is Song Il-Kook then Bae=Soo Bin then Lee Dong Wook
Too many names to vote for (and unfair to the names below 25) - wish you could have picked 10 or 15 at a time and then do a final vote off. from the top 5. Need to review their work and decide which ones I enjoyed as compared to others. I am assuming this is not an EYE CANDY survey only.
just completed after binge-watching for about 5 days. All of the more recent comments are on point. Almost became frustrated maneuvering through poor quality subs. However, the story was so beautifully told that it is worth the torture of viewing to the end. I had the same experience with the Ming Dynasty but fortunately, it was subbed correctly after a few months of its release. This gem of a piece has 81 episodes that really deserves proper subbing. Don't think I will revisit but the production was extremely good and superior to most historical dramas. The acting was also A+. Not your fluffy costume drama - a serious story shared.
I truly understand your struggles. My favorite genre is historical dramas - both Korean and Chinese and I have an undying thirst to watch them. The struggle is always the characters. I have learned to use Wikipedia and MDL to copy /paste the names of characters to make a playbill to work from before beginning any historical drama with multiple characters. I even mark which episodes they appeared so I can refer back if needed. Then I try to research a brief history of the period so I understand any historical significance of the drama. That has helped so many times. If watching on Viki the comments of viewers are always helpful so I wait until the drama has aired several completed episodes. If other sources for watching drama - I read comments, checked out Soompi Forums and sometimes ask questions of other viewers who have been extremely helpful educating me and recommending sources to read to help understand what is going on. The most complex drama I have watched was the Serenade of Joy. I have seen many -- Nirvana in Fire is a masterpiece and Six Flying Dragons are my top ones. I started with Jumong and never stopped searching for and looking for more and more historical dramas. Recently watched both versions of My Little Nyonya. Don't give up -- usually, the quality of production excels any drama you will watch generally and the time spent is worth it. Your article is so relevant to me and I know the struggles -- every new drama - a different and new struggle begins. Keep writing - good job.
Totally enjoyed after binge-watching 2008. Asked a reviewer whether I should even invest time on a remake and she guaranteed me it was worth it. And boy do I agree. This drama is a masterpiece not to be overlooked because of "harsh reality" scenes. The introduction to the Peranakan culture and Nyonyas, in general, was worth the investment of time. The precise period in history was a tumultuous one and the writer didn't hold back It was a good watch and emotional scenes were not held back. I felt a sense of enlightenment when I finished.
Just finished (binge watched it was so good) but hesitating watching 2020 version. This drama was a masterpiece…
Just an update. I am on episode 3 and already I appreciate the explanations of several cultural practices and food and I'm enjoying the detail added about the backgrounds of many characters. Thanks again -- Now to binge watch 45 episodes without interruption.

Thanks for pointing me to your review. I didn't notice that you were the same person. I thought it was a solid 10 so I only read the solid 10 review and skipped down to the comments. I will take the time to watch the 2020 version and take in mind your comments.. I truly fell deeply in love with the "cultural and historical aspects,. I hope to enjoy it as much as the 2008 version.
This one is better acted and has a better flow of events than the 2020 remake for sure. Much more masterfully…
Just finished (binge watched it was so good) but hesitating watching 2020 version. This drama was a masterpiece to me and one of the best cultural storytelling - over 5 generations within a single framework. Is the 2020 version different or should I just continue to be happy with the 2008 version which seems to be a "classic?"
I also like li dong and want him to be with Lin meiya..how can ou yang can say that to li dong that ...he want…
I tried but it didn't appeal to me. I recently watched Serenade of Joy; Ming Dynasty (twice); rewatched Princess Wei Young and watching Song of Glory. I love researching the historical period of the drama. Also watching Touch of Green (Taiwainese) and researching this period of history as well. Also watching a costume/fluffy one --- The Legend of JIn Lan. Last Night discovered a Japanese one - In this Corner of the World (Researching period today). There are many historical dramas and most are really good ( except Royal Nirvana - that was butchered but had potential). Nirvana 1 and 2; Rise of Phoenix; and any drama about Three Kingdoms is good. Disappointed that my infactuation with Korean historical dramas has faded after Six Flying Dragons hasn't been satisfied recently.

can't - would have to rewatch last 10 or more episodes to jog my memory. In lockdown - so I am watching dramas endlessly and they merge sometimes. short term memory loss sufferer. remember historical ones better.
Amazingly entertaining and a great binge watch. Enjoyed all the funny comments made by viewers on VIki which added so much to the already hilarious and innovative production. Truly will miss this one. Kudo's to the screenwriters in real and pretend.
