Tbh I understand if people don't like the climax as everyone looks forward to a satisfactory ending but we got an open ending instead (it's still a hopeful one). But questioning everyone else's taste who liked this show is weird. And giving The On1y One a low rating solely based on the ending is also not fair because overall, the show was super heartwarming.

As you mentioned, even actual shitshows get a good rating so many times. I couldn't stand History 4 omg the step bro storyline was sickening.

The saddest thing that I just got to know is that chinese audience gave The On1y One very poor ratings just cuz the actors are older. They expected 17 year olds to pull off playing such nuanced characters so when they didn't get it, they boycotted the show entirely. Imagine not even giving a show a chance and review bombing it 😭 they judged it too early & missed out on the acting and chemistry. Idk why people are so extreme. Why can't the world be a little more lenient? This is the reason why the director started asking us to hype the show when it was still airing. Since it failed in China, I think it's hard for them to renew another season that's why they're relying on us and I don't blame them tbh. They worked hard on this show and it shows. It's truly sad that this is happening because Benjamin & Eric don't deserve this 😭 I read that they even got hate for being chosen as the lead actors. Poor guys were just doing their job and they did it perfectly. I can't imagine anyone else playing Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang other than them.

I suggest you should watch I told sunset about you! It's really good. Thai dramas are disappointing I know but ITSAY did things that so many thai dramas couldn't. Only 5 episode long. Don't watch the next season it's shit. Just watch the 1st one as a stand-alone I think you'll like it if you liked the on1y one for it's acting, chemistry and cinematography.

The show's based on a book actually. It follows the book closely & in a pretty detailed way which makes it very meaningful. The characters have depth & their relationship develops on strong emotional foundation. It's just very slow because the novel is long and slow as well. The romance starts to happen very late since the guys are basically almost step bros. It'll take time for them to come to terms with their sexuality & changing dynamics expecially in an era when Taiwan wasn't very open to homosexuality. This show has an identity though. It's an lgbtq+ coming of age story that revolves around two high school boys in 2012, Taiwan.

Maybe the book hits all the right spots in it's original language but the translation has got nothing on the actual series, I fully agree!! The show is just too good. Which version are you reading? The one with automated translation? Cuz I came across that one and it was unreadable for me. Lemme send you the version that I'm reading to check if you're reading the same thing as me or some other. I agree though, the novel only tells us Sheng Wang's pov but the way the live action showed us Jiang Tian's pov and made us connect with him to the point that we could tell whether he was hurt or happy with a particular situation 🤌🏻 I also loved how they displayed Sheng Wang's changing feelings on screen. It was very exciting to see him fall for Jiang Tian so hard. His hormones were all over the place lol. I'm sending you the version I'm reading. The language is pretty good. Check your inbox.

Ikr! Dong Qin ATE & LEFT NO CRUMBS. I'm actually grateful the company made a deal to cast him. The odds played in everyone's favour and Dong Qin turned out to be just perfect as Shang Wang and his chemistry with Benjamin also worked like a charm 🤌🏻

I've been a pessimist most of my life actually. But recently I've been trying to develop a habit of being hopeful. And I'm trying to apply this rule in all aspects of my life. Be it my day to day life, career or be it something I support/like. I totally understand your point though. More often than not, we face disappointment in scenarios like the on1y one. There are a lot of hurdles but if it's meant to be it'll happen. I don't think they'll continue the series with some other actors cuz that just won't make any sense. I'm gonna boycott tf outta the show if they dare to change the actors of the male leads. I'm pretty hopeful cuz the makers can feel the buzz. There's a lot of noise being made by the fans regarding season 2. I'm already reading the novel to quench my thirst for the boys and the progression of their story, just in case season 2 never happens. It's not an officially released translation just done by a fan but it's actually pretty good. You can try it for yourself, I can send you the link if you want.

The thing is that the novel is pretty long. There are 4 volumes. If they had completed such a long story in just 12-16 episodes, it wouldn't have done justice to the characters and their beautiful love story. If you read the novel you will understand that such a detailed story really needs to be split in multiple seasons to be told perfectly without leaving any details. We like everything about this show because they didn't rush it. Even I was mad at the ending cuz it just left us in the middle. I agree the ending could've been tad bit more satisfying even if they were planning to make another season. The demand is really high though. I think season 2 will materialize some day. The script is ready they said.

Let us be happy in our delusion then. It doesn't bother anyone does it? Watch the show & characters in whichever light you want. Fyi the director himself said there's bromance in this show. If you don't see it then it's fine too. You're not better than us. You just have a different opinion. That's it. TayNew have been friends for more than decade now so we do it for fun. Even they know that their fans ship them in this show as well. It's harmless anyway. Nothing serious about it. Just enjoy the show.

The idea is not that great but the point is to focus on SW's feelings and perspective. The boys are teenagers after all. Cerebral intelligence is not the same as emotional intelligence. Especially when both the boys didn't have very emotionally available parents. They're 17 they will obviously make mistakes and bad choices. You're looking at it with the practicality of an adult.

Thank you so much for explaining the class change part. I hope more & more people read your comment. It's necessary to know the perspectives of the characters. The ending might feel a little abrupt but the feelings of the boys are still very much valid. (I was frustrated with the ending as well at first but then I rewatched the episode and my thoughts have shifted a lot now).

Bruh don't you think Wang will still act aloof? He doesn't want his feelings to grow so he'll continue to ignore Tian. You saw how he was behaving around Tian in the dorm. And someone mentioned that in the novel, Class B students study for extra hours which means they won't interact as much outside school as well. Even if they do, it won't be the same since they were attached to the hip lately.
