In your review I trust! I'm still way behind the episodes, but I also feel that LNS is a bit too innocent and…
Ah tyvm for your kind words. I think it is a very enjoyable drama as well and it is hard not to like ZLY but I wanted to see him grow a cold and ruthless side as well. But its definitely worth watching even if just for Wang Yang/Chen Moqun.

Title The Rebel Spoiler
i guess she die because the last screen she speak with Lin Nansheng before he go to car camera not show her face…
It was someone who just sounded like her. So Lin Nansheng was at first happy and then fake happy and then his eyes blurred with tears of disappointment and then it goes into his hallucination what if she was saved along with him and they spent time together in that town scenario. But it is only his last hallucination before he leaves to return to Shanghai.

Is not LNS graduated the Teachers College?
No that was his fake identity and cover for him to approach Zhu Yizhen. He graduated with his buddy from the Fuxing academy, which is the spy academy. That is where Chen Moqun picked him out of all the graduates to work with him in Shanghai branch.

So the ending is an open ending? We don't really know if (BIG SPOILER) Zhu Yi Zhen is dead or just missing. I…
To me it is clearly a sad ending. Stomach wounds are usually fatal so if it didn't kill her, she must have drowned. If she somehow survived she would have surfaced, especially since the CCP won. And as you mention, the pigtails. On Douban the overwhelming view is she is dead. One user points out that the uniform she is wearing is the wrong party uniform but I don't have that level of knowledge.

Yeah the way they were both killed off was really not good and didn't do justice to either character.

Review Awakening Age
Geez you just sucked me into another flag waving drama with this review! I think it is very important to understand why China went down the path it did and I am pleasantly surprised to see some of the competing ideologies of the day being so vigorously presented and debated in this recent spate of dramas. And of course Yu Hewei is the icing on the cake. I will try to start this soon but I am waiting to watch it with my mom, she really loves this stuff.

Ah, ok tyvm for explaining everything makes a lot more sense now :).

I am frustrated with Tong Yao bc her character was promising but flopped into damsel in distress and her acting just didn't move me at all. So the idea that she won over Rayzha is just a travesty. Underlying all of this is of course what is going on right now and I sense a backlash against the Rayzhas and Dilrabas of this world that wasn't there before. I hope China/Chinese can show we are better than that and I say this as someone who loved Dilraba in TLB but hated her in ELOD.

Nonetheless I think I forgot to thank you for pushing me to finish this. I will probably watch Awakening Age as well at some point but maybe not just right now.

Yes indeed I finished but I am still super grumpy that this kind of genre made me tear up so much. I can't be more impressed with Daylight but despite the initial struggle, I am so happy I didn't know about the standard mandarin version.

I liked Maimiao a lot too... geez in so many ways I am Maimiao. But she does get the fairytale (eyes roll) and the drama glosses over the difficulty of putting the genie back into the bottle, a departure from the drama's realism so the character lost me in the latter half. I also was felt the acting was good but didn't stand out among the many equally well acted roles.

Debao is a flawed character in an awesome way but Defu and Shuihua moved me more because from start to finish they were the less lucky couple that were meant to be together but never stood a chance. So they are both just enablers who try to make it happen for everyone else. Only towards the end of the show, the significance of the dam and what it meant to Defu and what it represented really dawned upon me. By comparison, Maimiao and Debao are much less complex and thus happier but less interesting characters. I wish I didn't know Maimiao got put forward ahead of Shui Hua because that's just plain wrong so I am glad the actress didn't win.

Btw, I think don't like Tong Yao - she has blank expression and dead duck stare all the time in The Rebel.

We made fun of our youngest colleague for days because he literally couldn't move his arm while the rest of us barely had side effects. Until we learned that that it was bc we are older and thus our immune response is much weaker. Karma sucks. 😜
In any case, hope you have a good experience with it.
