And even though there is a touching could have been connection between Jinyi and Chu2 in that version, I much prefer that Chu2 is Jinyi's connection to the father he longed for but grew up not knowing.

I think they all more or less grew up together but since he was only the foster son of nobility he was always one notch below them in status and did not mingle as freely with them.
