I watched FW ep 1 with my drama buddy (who is a mainlander) - she tried to explain and I cut her off with - I get it if its a China production CCP is good, Kuomintang is bad and if it is HK/Taiwan production, then vice versa. That is the disconnect. They are wildly popular in China but they don't travel well outside bc of this. I personally don't mind at all who are the good guys as long as they win...
As for the BL, I will re-watch the Untamed the next time I have a terrible drama drought. I am one of less than 10 people in the world it seems that just couldn't get into it. But I LOVE Winter Begonia... That said, I hope for epic wuxias and xianxias... I really hope Zhao Ge finally comes out, Zhang Zehan will be Ji Fa!!!

The difference is translation. Tencent Video has 114mm subscribers but they are almost all domestic. iQiyi has 104mm and only 1mm are international. They only release English subbed dramas as and when their translators get to it. I think Detective was so delayed bc they were too busy dubbing Ruyi first. We don't move the needle, even though we pay more to watch. FW is unlikely to be subbed unless by fans. From what I understand, 2021 will be the year of BL.

Where are you on Xiao Chou? I was gonna drop but after ~20 it was ok and by 25/26 it started to get good again... I am not sure if its the subs bc I don't subscribe to Tencent Video but I feel many on the thread don't understand the story...

Agree completely. He was so cool in the beginning I would have loved to see them as love rivals and grudging allies. I think that is how they were going with it initially but then changed their minds. Such a missed opportunity.

Yeah I went into a slump. Couldn't finish anything so I went back to older dramas. But Ruyi was fun and Xiao Chuo is quite interesting as well. I will probably also watch Detective and Fearless Whisper episode 1 of both were very good. I just wish they weren't Republican/Qing... yuck.
