There is an OLD TVB version by Leung Chiu Wai and Lau Tak Wah that was hilarious but it is in Cantonese.
I know its a parody but honestly, as ,much as I love Jin Yong I always hated this ultimate male fantasy story. But the LCW/LTW version got the spirit of what was intended so spot on it was the only version I was ever able to watch. I may check out one or two episodes of this one just out of curiosity but I doubt I will watch it. I agree that most Jin Yong remakes are very uninspired. Its a pity because the stories are really great. I can also tell you as a Cantonese girl, there is no universe in which the insipid Wei Xiao Bao will ever match the gravitas of Wai Siu Bo....
For some odd reason, the hands down funniest scene in this show for me was when Fu Rong was missing and Prince Su's minion (I forget his name) was looking all over for her. He REPEATEDLY asked everyone along the street "Have you seen a young lady - she is about this high" and he indicates just above waist level for himself. I just rolled around laughing - she is petite but she is not that short. That incompetent fool will never find her with that description...
He claims he was going to make Yanyan his queen, his partner in ruling the country and he can't even take some simple, good sense advice from her like protect my father. And then he has the gall to try to stop her from attending her father's funeral? Don't tell me she forgives him for this selfish and despicable behavior?
