Even though they dragged it out too long, I was ok with him being mean to her for once...
This dude is going to play a very complex and possibly grey character in The Promise of Changan. I can't wait I think he is a good actor but this role here is written as a character that just exists to love the FL unconditionally which is typical fantasy xianxia ML. I think he is good enough to do much more interesting roles that don't just involve spitting blood all the time...
Youku released everything earlier today but I got hooked on Sisyphus I won’t start the rest until tomorrow..
Yeah I think this is a new genre for China its actually very good because the gore and violence is limited so the focus is more on story. Even Murder in Horizon Tower I am gonna have to suck up my Angelababy dislike and watch it bc I hear its so good. I have skimmed the netflix ones, I think they are all gratuitous violence that is a big yawn. The only Western ones I like in this genre have been Fargo and some (not all) the True Detective seasons.

I hope the screen time spent on Zhang Haifeng's relations with his family pays off in the end as part of the plot.…
Yeah that seems very popular at the moment... Crimson River, Go Ahead... iQiyi has been using AI to identify tropes that appeal to viewers... and it shows...
Heheh... indeed. But to me Wutong is a tropey villain - like we have seen the likes of him many times before. But HC is a really excellent complex villain. Like somewhere along the way his stone cold heart fell for GoW but he pretty much was clueless about it for the longest time. And how her rejection int he mortal realm was quietly killing him. I think his behavior is inexcuseable and despicable but I still pity him because he doesn't even understand his own emotions. One of the best villains I have seen in a long time, I find him as a character far more interesting than Sifeng or Xuanju. This actor is doing a phenomenal job but villains never get the same kind of recognition.
i thought 48 is best.. cos XJ remember something that she had forgotten...
As it turns out it was more than 3 because 50-53 was barely better - there was just one very short good part. Tbh the last ~12+ were very mediocre without the engaging pacing and story/character development of the earlier episodes. I can't even honestly say there was more than one full good episode from 45-53. Just a bunch of flashbacks, song singing and characters I don't care about taking way too long to die. I really hope I am wrong but if the next 6 are similarly paced, it will make the very boring mortal arc of L&D look fast paced and exciting. I saved these episodes for the weekend and I feel really dissatisfied. I just hope the last 6 are not like this but I have a sinking feeling at the moment.
Okay, I do agree that I was super annoyed with Xuanji for not believing Sifeng but it is true that Sifeng is literally…
She should understand by now that everything he does is to protect her... and anyway she happily admist that she swore lying blood oath to her father so its not like she doesn't lie either...
