I loved TMBOP, although I was not fond of Dilraba on Ten Miles I still had high expectations for this drama...…
I cannot think of a better title - it has so far been sleep inducing. But I hear the story is better than TMOPB so let's hope it gets better. In the meantime, its a great sleeping aid.

After the first 4 episodes this improved quite a bit. There is still some overacting but it is not too bad.

Haha - there is justice in this world! Gaining face weight is the worst - imagine how to lose face weight!?!?!

LMAO - I have never seen fatty used that way... I guess you mean her face?!? It sounds so wrong and so oddly right at the same time I literally spit out my coffee!
Not blaming any actress btw - the innocent young ingenue is the most tired and annoying trope that is repeated in every c-drama. No actress does it well if it lasts more than one or two episodes. This director however is the very obnoxious and commercial one that is a genius for dragging out annoying scenes for as long as possible so just braces yourselves. I dropped AOL because I realized by the time the FL was gonna grow up I would be dead from old age. It’s the same director for this so let’s hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Just binge watch 8 episodes. It's a slow pace for now. I'm not fully into it as yet. It's a long drama so I know…
I actually have quite low expectations for this. I don’t think DH and FJ are such interesting characters that they have 20 episodes (TMOPB) plus 50 some episodes of ELD or 70+ episodes of material without lots of repetition of the worst parts (teenage FJ). They’d been better off skipping a bunch of that and focusing more on grownup queen FJ instead. That said Dilraba is gorgeous and it’s ok so far but definitely not something I am gonna buy VIP for.

Also i would like to say Eternal Love had so much impact on people , This drama and the characters are still suffering…
I agree it was a bit mean spirited of them to basically try to preempt the original DH/FJ story by pushing their own version. They did a good job of it but it did compress the YH/BQ storyline towards the end. And as much as I loved TMOPB the ending execution was terrible.

even if the CGI is dreadful.. I love the white beast very much..
Indeed the white beast is adorable and not at all scary.

Review Royal Nirvana
where can I watch it with English subtitles?
Amazon Prime and Youtube both have the same English subs from the production company. They are ok. Viki is expected to eventually sub this and it will be a lot better but you will have to wait for it. Astro if you have access has very good subtitles.

Is it me or does Donhua look skinnier. Lol
Must be from all that lifting of Dilraba (he complained she was heavy in TMOPB).

I've seen the trailer and this production looks phenomenal. From cinematography to, acting... just top notch!…
There are two romance lines but they are not pivotal and only rather incidental to the show.

I respect your opinion on this drama, to each his own.... I'm obligated to continue watching because each episode…
Well you certainly get lots of Luo Jin in this show! OTP = one time pairing or the main leads.

... and what a shame for Hu Yitian whom I have come to watch.
So far both leads are decent so it is not yet a lost cause, its just the surrounding characters overact and are annoying - its like they picked up the worst of the old 80s/90s TVB instead of the best. It may improve. I will watch until the brothers meet and see how it goes. You can always keep a few of those so-so dramas for the treadmill.

Ugh! The signature TVB crass, noisy, silly, over exaggerated wierd and obnoxious characters. And looks like filler disease. I will give it 1-2 more and then this goes into the dustbin. Its a pity because its based on a great novel,

Yeah it is a real pity because the OTP really had amazing chemistry but that ship for me sank with the repeated abuse. I felt WX deserved better and I wanted her to find a simpler, less tormented man. I would for sure have dropped it if I didn't find the rest interesting.

This is one example where the big mistake was to make the writer the screenwriter. All of the issues wiht the drama rests squarely with her writing and she is trying to blame the actors. In reality she has no clue how to adapt a novel into a screenplay. Joy of Life is the opposite example where the writer is making all the right changes, to the point even book readers are surprised and delighted. The show doesn't click for me but it is far more successful than RN for that reason. I am watching ROP now which is a similar story but the big difference is I really care about the characters and I feel they had a life worth living. This writer destroyed alll of her characters along the way. Had they been able to take this to the novel conclusion, I wouldn't even have been moved or that sad at the rate it was going. A better screenwriter would have really made RN into a huge hit.

Huh - LM AO at that! This writer has zero EQ. Not only did emperor steal the show, SHE is the one that is undeserving of any audience love!!!

Well AOL gave me rashes but I loved TMOPB so to me they are very different outside of being broadly xianxia romance…
LOL - I am sure there is a fortune to be made for anyone who can understand the Chinese censors... its bafflingly ranges from too much cleavage to too evil whatever that means! I don't think L&D was censored btw but it was just so toned down by comparison to TMOPB. If you watch carefully all the 2019 dramas had at least some aspects of self censorship and/or propaganda.

Thanks for the suggestions re: Wallace Chung - I think I will have to watch the expected 2020 Invisible King and also check out the Too Late to Say I Love You. I just don't love war dramas but you intrigued me, I want to meet this actor! Also, I hear you on Tiffany she is so gorgeous but only just a so-so actress.

TMOPB is much, much spicier than L&D. L&D had the misfortune to be produced in 2019 the year of extreme censorship due to the Communist Party 70th anniversary. I am sure they self edited a bunch of stuff out in order to be able to air.

Ah, I didn't know this Wallace - any good ones you suggest? I don't like modern drama... Maybe you will have to let me know if General & I is tolerable...

Royal Nirvana is the best drama so far for me, the story line is different, yes, it is a tragic story ... I watch…
And one that doesn't cry so much while we are at it.
