But this was not a well-written character from many episodes ago already. I mean the idea she left her dying husband to try to break up WS and QM when uncle Chen Pang was waiting in the wings to seize the throne was just bat shit crazy. Anyone with even a peanut sized brain would know it would have been better to stay put. And yeah, idk what she can achieve at the deer hunt.

Indeed her motives and end game seem misguided.

The latest episodes were sweet and funny but should have been rounded out with some more serious plot developments as well.

In Chinese tradition, once married even a woman's ghost belongs to her husband's family. Most ancient brides rarely/never see their families again - it is normal to have few/no visits or contact so it is normal for Manman to be raised like a bride to be given away. Yet through centuries of history, Manman's longing for her family is often documented in literature. But only super tolerant husbands/families allow frequent visits. Usually a married daughter only returns home maybe after a parent/sibling/relative dies to pay their last respects.

That said, I agree with you that she is very clever and manipulative. She is 100pct trying to manipulate WS into not killing her whole clan dead. That does not mean she doesn't love him. Bc his demand from the start that she is a Wei and only a Wei is unreasonable and impossible for her. He has no right to make her choose like that and if HE really loves HER he wouldn't expect her to love him anyway and just stand there and watch as he annihilates her family. I don't love the initial plot tbh. His hate feels misdirected. The Qiao clan simply chose to protect their people over the military alliance. This has happened before many times in history. There is no right or wrong just whose side you are on.

I think she does but she also has a duty towards her family. What she is trying to tell him is that her affection for him and for her family need not be mutually exclusive. That is why she asked him he not to be petty 小气. He wrote a prayer for his aspirations/wishes 愿望. She wrote a prayer of yíhàn / 遗憾 which in English just means regret but the meaning is a lot deeper than that. It is a kind of regret and longing associated with helplessness and the lack of free will. She cannot be by their side to care for them since she is already with him. He has no reason to be jealous and nor should he want to be included in that kind of sad prayer.
