yes..the 1st 4 episodes are triggering as well as misleading..different layers of FL character starts getting revealed ep 5-6 onwards..the script-writing could've been better
(I've not read the novel..saying this from perspective of a pure drama viewer)

so from the trailers YSC marries Wu's sister and there is a 1yr time gap?

what is the deal with Wu's mother? why is she secluded and why does the daughter does not want to meet her usually? has this been mentioned anytime?
also why did YSC hide the comb and how did he already know that the person was in Ya'un county?

she does seem suspicious too..she was dating the Gu guy who was close to Du Liang..she is close to emperess as well..

also what appears to be "cruising through life" for others is not a praise..having worked with them..honestlythe bravery they show even in waking up and doing normal routine is known only to them and ppl they open up to..

and Sang Yan hasn't made his intentions clear because of the way SHE is? really these are your words? ...she has always been like that, even in their school days..
and he knows she is mentally unwell? no..he didn't..it is only in ep 9-10 he comes to know of this (and this is not a spoiler as you stated it yourself)

you probably are forgetting the fact that Wen Yifan has no idea about how her story will unfold and intentions of people around her towards her..Sang Yan also doesn't really know much about Wen Yifan..WE AUDIENCE KNOW IT..not the characters

and honestly if something is worth it have patience to build it..Relationships require patience.

we the drama watchers know what Sang Yan is doing for Wan Yifen..she has no clue..
Also Sang Yan hasn't made his intentions clear..it was only in ep10 that he stated he got the soup specially for her..all this while he has been saying it is extra which he got and asking her to help him finish it up..
as for her owing him an explaination and apology..Sang Yan owes Wen Yifan an apology too as it was his open declaration and stubbornness in front of teaher which lead to her school being shifted to Beiyu..if he had lied in front of teacher and said he didnt like such rumours about himself thats why he fought..at least she wouldnt have to shift schools again..
they both need to talk about their past and resolve it..

honestly this is one drama which kept me guessing and thinking after a long time

he may have more scenes now hopefully as the case has now shifted to salt trade corruption..

this drama correctly represents the depth of corruption and conspiracies..things will be something on the surface but will reveal something deeply sinister and inter-connected web on deeper investigation..

isn't that Minister of Justice, the one who is interogating HYP currently also with HYP? in ep 7 they are having tea and playing chess when HYP orders someone to kill YPA

their chemistry and this trust in each other is way better than any actual romance drama

zrn has portrayed the sadness and lonliness of wen yi fan very well..

timeline seems to be after brother graduated and DJX was in Yihe..and SZ was preparing for her entrance exams..maybe just before SZ went to Yihe to see if DJX had a gf as she stopped talking to him after that
