I think the rating coming down is because of fake profiles and haters...I just saw 2 profiles with same review and both had rated this drama 1..
I dont think sad endings will overshadow the entire drama..(mayb reduce overall score by max 1..not more than that)

I am currently watching "NEVER GIVE UP"..it's sitcom style and its hilarious

The princess character till ep 18 is portrayed as childish..but ep 19onwards it becomes more child-like and her actions are understandable.
This is story abt XQA and the princess has very less scenes..so if you are looking for a pure romance drama this may not be your cup of tea..
This is a mystery drama focused on solving cases (romance really really less, but every such scene is very warm-hearted and satisfactory)..

its not about sad/happy ending..it is whether the ending was coherent with the entire story or not..did the ending episodes live up to the entire series..
ending can elevate the entire drama or completely bring it down...endings can affect by 1 or 1.5 points not more than that..its not about being self-centered..it is knowing what one liked/not..
and going by your comments it's more like you want to address people who target dramas based on fandoms rather than genuine viewers

it's not just MDL..even DOUBAN is heavily infected..
and I've seen MDL scores increase towards the end after many people binge-watch towards the end/ people wait till the ending to decide on final score (last year was full of superb dramas with bad endings).. (even I had rated GOTD 8.5 after initial episode..and was thinking of increasing scores after seeing how the ending happens..it was ep 31 which decided it as a 10/10 drama for me)
hopefully the scores will increase soon

actually once when XQA decided to tell Lord Wei, Shen Shu acting through XQA's hand gripped his neck/brought a sword to his neck..as SS is very powerful XQA couldn't tell anyone even if he wanted to

EPIC episode 31..a masterpiece
started with the usual hilarious chaos of Xu family and ended with beautiful life lesson..
this episode is BEST for me so far

I am guessing it is the emperor..his jealousy abt XQA and the Loong choosing XQA (it only chooses someone royal), plus his convo with the statue during the Dafeng ceremony..something seems off with the Emperor

its their job right..they meet really hard-core criminals who outwardly appear charming at times..that was the aspect I liked too..they were logical and acted on evidence than emotions (except the junior who eventually matured)
