Hengtang has a disaster and grain is in shortage. Relief grain has been embezzled by corrupt officals and also looted by bandits. So scarcity has driven the prices high. Yan Rui has been worsening the sitution by collecting grain, checking military supplies and driving grain prices even higher. Now in porridge distribution scene it shows whatever grain has been collected is also possibly getting over, but further collection will drive price even higher. Yan Rui sees this as oppurtunity as more grain they collect, less grain in market, more grain in their control, and further inflation. Wei asks where money will come to buy the grains...Yan Rui says they'll use the imperial relief funds. Basically use govt money, buy grain at high price, maintain a relief facade and then when prices are even high sell the grain (they bought with govt money) back to govt and pocket the difference...
Shen Che is warning Yan Rui that his pretention can go on only till the grain supplies come. Once they come he has to reveal his true self and the corrupt officials will retaliate So ep12, 13 : Yan Rui is trying to convince the Marquis to lend him troops to safegaaurd Hengtang. And his true intentions are disaster relief, bandit suppression and root out corruption.
And opponents hidden cards Ep 12 : lord xie and lord wei discuss to put on a show together and in the end do away with Yan Rui Ep 13: Lord Wei wants to bring back the looted grain into maket and sell it along with genuine businessmen. Ep 13 on the day of grain collection Yan Rui flips the game by opening all the granary and orders for the release of all grains for free..so the grains that bandits looted and Lord Wei collected is back in market, distributed for free...and with surplus grain , merchants have to reduce the price... So commoners get food , all embezzled grain is back in government markets and grain orices are down

Xie Shu is a master manipulator...👏👏👏 he says enough right things but gets his work done.. The acting when he said he doesnt want to risk his daughter, and adding say goodbye to century old Xie family And both grandmother and he gaslight FL to go out to ask help... Classic gaslighting and guilt tripping scene. Psychology students please take notes. 👏👏👏
I can usually handle fight scenes—in fact, sometimes I’m even bored by them because, come on, we all know our ML is going to be the hero. 😂
But today? Xu Kai, with those expressions and that agility, had me genuinely on tenterhooks. For a moment, it felt like my beloved was fighting for me.😭❤️
And his acting… a masterclass. Most actors can convincingly convey one or two emotions in a scene, but Xu Kai manages to express so many layers simultaneously—through his eyes, his voice, his body language, even the smallest shifts in expression. You can actually feel what’s going through the character without him having to say it.
That fight scene wasn't just action. His performance made me feel every second of it.❤️🙏🏻🔥

Rivarly unfortunately was started by the 2nd sister who is petty and bullies everyone around...FL is just using it to her advantage...she is not actively going against them... Though it seems petty, unmasking the 2nd sister also puts her mother on Grandmother's radar...Lady Hu will not enjoy 100% favour of the grandma
FL stood up to the 1st sister not just out of some sense of justice...she had observed that eldest sister's mother was the one who asked "what do you want " when FL was pretending to be possessed by her mother's ghost...hinting that Eldest sister's mother has a role in FL's mother's accusation...she uses this to make the eldest concubine talk and uncover clues about what happened...

Jade (玉) symbolizes purity, nobility, and resilience and Cold moon suggests loneliness, restraint, and hidden sorrow. Rather than simply being pure, she has inherited the coldness and Rather than simply being pure, she has inherited the coldness and grief left by her mother's death.
素绡还裹旧时痕 White silk still wraps traces of the past, She still carries past wounds with her, related to xie family
东风莫扫阶前雪 Let not the east winds sweep away the snow before the steps, The east wind usually symbolizes spring and change. . Here it feels like her return to the Xie family shouldn't erase what happened before. One seemingly good turn of events cannot wipe away years of injustice.
恐有幽香出重门 For a hidden fragrance may yet drift out from beyond those deep gates. 'The fragrance reveals itself before the flower is seen.' In this context, He knows her hidden plan buried beneath all the pretense she is playing even without any evidence, he can "smell" her schemes already. 幽香 "hidden fragrance" part from this line is one of the most iconic expressions in Chinese literature for plum blossoms. The tree outside their house was plum blossom
And the following lines were "tell me, do you think that tree out front has burried beneath it a great many secret that were never meant to see the light of the day?" Again indirectly points that she must have many more Schemes and secrets which she is hiding from Xie family. So I think this tree inspired him to create that poem to express his thoughts. I can't quite put my thoughts in words properly but it's all like a double-meaning phrase. I don't think this is from any famous source that I'm aware of. It feels like an original poem written for the drama, with the ML using an elegant, scholarly way of expressing how much he already knows without saying it outright.

I went into that fight thinking, "okay, we all know how this is going to go…" and then I remembered I’m watching Xu Kai.
