The granny came to know that blood poem on the wall was FL's scheme to get into Xie family, so she realises FL is intelligent and capable....and from the dialogues it looks like they plan to do away with Yan Rui soon...so she is telling her to get into the Marquis mansion and fight for herself and not give up on him because of wanting to please the 2nd sister... But as we now granny is not innocent either...why does she want FL to choose SML? And she must be aware the reason FL entered Xie house must be to investigate her mother's death...is she protecting her or guiding her? Or was she indirectly telling her the Xie family worked its way up fighting for itself, so not to assume her schemes will go unnoticed or countered?? Too many hidden meanings....further episodes will reveal
The ML asking FL "are you scared?"...is it to entangle with him...or another way of hinting, now she knows how deep the game actually is and the powerful people involved, is she getting scared and wants a way out??
The father giving ML lotus seed tea to cool his "internal heat"...is he indirectly hinting him to tame it around his daughter or asking him to stop investigating the grain relief?
Every new character who shows up comes with the question is this person trustworthy? Is he/she good or bad? Way to shoot a suspense drama...the director and scriptwriter have a vision

Yan Rui is a passionate, intense,intelligent character who moves fast and with finnesse....he met her first when she set fire to Xie mansion using sugar cubes and her horse...such an intelligent scheme without leaving any trace would intrigue anyone, especiallysomeone equally intelligent, and she keeps refusing him and is not necessarily impressed or scared bh his status (while others are trying to be in his good books nd yet are wary of him) adding to her intrigue...also on side note he probably knows she is his childhoo friend... The romance plot is coherent to the whole plot IMO

There are 2 plots running parallely...one is FL taking revenge for her mother's accusation and death...she wants to clear her name, find the real culprit and the absuers should suffer the same her mother went throught.....2nd is the ML investigating the corruption running rampant and the embezzlement of relief grains... Both have their work cut out for them. There are many payoff 1.Fl's mother was beaten by the Nanny..Nanny got tricked, exposed and beaten and eventually died. 2. Xie family's grains was released by the ML plotting against Xie family 3. Xie family's money was again released by ML showing the lady a fake ledger. 4. Other corrupt officials gave up their store of grains 5. Wei's (another corrupt official) brother is dead. 6. TheXie family brother is now in custody forcing the Xie father to come back home. 7. The 2nd lady is exposed as scheming and has lost authority over the household. 8. The elder sister is fighting for her rights, standing up for herself and marry the person she loves 9. The bully sister's mother got the house seals, but this seems like a trap that will unravel 10. The 2nd and 3rd sister got trapped by the Jade token and lost their face in front of important official (this matters as the Xie family and ancient noble families are all about status and image) 11.Fl has got lead that it is elder sister's mother who was the one involved indirectly and Cuier a medicine lady has to be found. It is a suspense drama with clues unfolding with each passing episode,..and noose tightening around the culprits...the way the suspense is unfolding is a visual treat .
The pot is stirred, the gravy is thickening… let it simmer. Patience, patience!!!
Yan Rui is such a multifaceted character—intelligent, yet deliberately hiding his intelligence by pretending to be a corrupt official...passionate and possessive,...loyal...emotional, yet logical. He plans several steps ahead, constantly keeping his opponents fooled until they don’t even realise what hit them. Xu Kai brings all these different facets of Yan Rui to life. While defending the FL he had tears in his eyes , sad but still maintaining his authority, being angry in some scenes yet restrained, or being possessive ,crossing the boundaries expected of a nobleman yet without being creepy or cheap, Xu Kai makes each side of him feel natural. Even his flirting works—flirty without being cringy...courting the FL without losing his dignity. All of this is conveyed through the smallest details: his expressive eyes, the microexpressions, the little smiles and even the smirks. You can see the emotions underneath the words without him having to overplay them. I’m really glad Xu Kai dubbed Yan Rui himself. The changes in his tone and the different meanings he brings to the dialogue adds another layer to the performance. He manages to convey the emotion and subtext without going overboard or underplaying it. Yan Rui is a multilayered character on paper, but Xu Kai is what makes those layers come alive on screen.
The synopsis is a little misleading—it makes the drama sound like a straightforward revenge-romance plot, when it’s actually more of a suspense drama, with the story gradually unfolding and revealing more and more with each episode. And this matters, at least to me, because the synopsis initially made me expect the usual C-drama setup—virtuous scheming ladies and noble men. But the characters turn out to be much more layered and complex than they appear at first, and the suspense comes from gradually discovering who they really are and what is actually going on. This is a character-driven suspense plot, with each episode becoming more intriguing as another layer is revealed. What I’m enjoying most is the gradual unveiling. The drama doesn’t hand us fully formed heroes and villains; it gives us pieces and lets us reconsider our assumptions as the story progresses. That makes the suspense feel much more character-driven than I initially expected.
If this were another drama, I’m sure the comment would be something along the lines of:“The ML is so restrained…
