Yes! I noticed that as well, though I didn’t make all the connections you did. Also, the hairpin has a little bell on it, and there are several other bell references, including the one he installs to announce his homecoming and the one on the amulet she gives him for his sword. Oh, and bells on the umbrellas the Butterfly Slaves are carrying when we first see them. Don’t know what to make of it all, but I’m loving all the details and easter eggs.

Same! I check on what he’s doing as often as I check on my favorite actors and actresses. He’s such a good storyteller! And this is gorgeous and fascinating so far!

Trailer looks beautiful but super dark. I was thinking the title was just one of those unfortunate translations you sometimes see (“Butterflied” as a cooking term, as in cut open and splayed) but now I’m wondering if it’s intentional😬 . Ah, well, horror, if that’s what it is, is not my thing, but I’ll at least start it because Zeng Qing Jie is awesome.

Nice connections! One little thing, though—I’m pretty sure we’re meant to understand that YouGuang is killed by the father of the woman he rejected. For that matter, MacBeth’s death is also not a suicide. But I think your larger point about the connections is good— there are so many neat details in this drama!

I don’t know if anyone else is watching this, but the synopsis and the cast are really misleading/misidentified.

The SFL has such a pretty, warm, friendly smile! Hard to keep thinking of her as the villainess when she flashes it.

…BFY is weak and soft spoken but with a core of strength, WJG is aristocrat who is at times just a little too noble …😁 I was finding lots of parallels to GWTW as well. Though as far as I can tell, the original Chinese title isn’t making any references to it.

I totally agree. She’s attracted to WJG because he slides so neatly into her fantasy life, but I don’t see a happy future for them. He’s too easy for her to control in the externals, but he is also a knee-jerk class snob and his patriotism and possibly even self-preservation has won out over her claims repeatedly by now.

The fact that the FL has so many fantasy scenes is making the trailer completely unreliable. Don’t get me wrong; I really enjoy them, but it’s making it really hard for me to tell what kind of tone this drama is supposed to have. So far it’s been fairly lighthearted and comedic, despite all the war and the potential for forced marriage lurking everywhere.

As of episode 4, MX has had the lion’s share of screen time. The character also refers to herself as the lead role in a monologue in ep. 1.

Sigh…ML gets hit on the head in the trailer, which means a 95% chance there’s going to be an amnesia arc.
