This kind of dark fantasy concept is the most exciting for me but I hope they have a proper budget so that the special effects wonāt look cheap. Bad CGI can kill a fantasy series very easily.
I used to be hopeful about this, but similarly to some others, recently Iām seriously starting to think this is not coming anymore. Not only does the cast (including Jeff)have multiple long-term commitments elsewhere, they went from āthe script is 80% readyā in June to āI donāt have a deadline for itā sometime around September last year. This and the endless pre-script meetings just allows sos to indefinetly postpone the series while appearing active.
Call me pessimistic but I think Jeff might have bitten more than he can chew with HE, as it is a VERY ambitious and expensive first-time project for a small studio with an inexperienced screenwriter who cannot commit full-time.Davika and her husband struggled to secure investors for Clairebell, which shows how hard securing financing for unique/risky concepts can be even for well-established figures in the industry. If there is no concrete update with new information (script lock, table reads, workshops, filming date,platform/sponsor announcement etc.) by the second anniversary of the pilot in June the project is with all likelihood inactive in all but name.It sucks but Thai series rarely get officially cancelled, either because a formal cancellation would hurt the reputation of the studio or because the creators are just very attached to the concept. The result? Indefinite limbo.
I wonder now that Be On Cloud is expanding so much into het series/movies if the result will be that the biggest budgets and best scripts will start to be allocated to thoseā¦ā¦
It's a BL. https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/movies-series/2026/1/27/netflix-series-starring-2pm-s-taecyeon-hayato-isomura-gets-premiere-date-1532
ššstill need to see it with my own eyes thoughš
It's romance, but it's always been marketed as an understated queer drama, not a "BL". So if people expect…
If it is actually romance then count me very (pleasantly) surprised. They donāt have to go full heated rivalry or anything, just acknowledgement that the characters are more than friends is enough for me.
Co-produced BLs with South Korea have historically not worked out well (Wuju Bakery, Soul Mate). I wonder if this one will break the pattern and actually airš
Iām not speaking for any specific generation, just stating my own preference .I donāt mind if the actors are super famous as long as I myself have not seen them in more than letās say 3 productions (maybe itās because Iām more from the anime/manga and book side of fandom where a new character always equals a new face haha) I think Iām a minority though, as most people seem to get attached to the celebrities more than any characters they play
Btw just curious, which seasoned actors would you have casted for Heated rivalry if you had had the choice?
If the company can afford to make another drama I hope they keep up with the interesting and unique concepts. I donāt want more office or entertainment industry romance because those are already everywhereš¬
So this wasn't in Netflix's 2026 lineup...I fear this drama may never see the light of day...
These international collaborations with South Korea rarely seem to go well, at least not when there is queer series involved. Wuju Bakery too was filmed and never releasedš
did this show get screwed over because of scarlet heart? i don't quite follow or can understand gmmtvs 30 shows…
Gmmtv will never change their formula of quantity over quality as long as it keeps being so profitable. Why invest money in good quality when people will watch anything as long as it has their faves in it.
I donāt really understand why they announced this project so early as long wait times and postponing just frustrate…
Iāve been thinking exactly the same. Original series canāt go far with screenwriters that are āquite goodā,they need to be exceptionally talented. All of the most beloved BLs have been based on existing source material. If they canāt find any good source material from Thailand they should look into the possibility of buying rights to danmei novels like Yesterday the series did recently (no idea if it will be good but it shows that rights can be bought) or any promising queer themed source material from whatever country. Alternatively, they could do queer reimaginings of source materials that are not queer per se (like some modern Western authors have done with Greek myths etc.) Like Sammon is good, but I think we have already seen her limits.
Also, source materials would significantly reduce the time between announcement and release, making everyone happier in the process.
It is really frustrating to be a fan of the POTENTIAL of BL and GL but dissatisfied with the actual current state of them haha
