It seems most people liked this show but for me all the characters were annoying. The only character I liked was the girl from KARA and she had a minor role.
The villain guy is so cheesy and the new main female Park Han Byul is way worse than the first so I am dropping the show. Honestly I like melodramas but this is just so bad......
I've been scouring for intelligent female leads and turns out Chinese historical dramas are a landmine for them…
Legend of Concubine Zhen Huan (2012) is subbed and rated 8.7 on mydramalist. It is easily my favorite historical c-drama and I've watched it multiple times even though it has 76 episodes.

I started watching dramas 10+ years ago. Way before this site, before viki, before dramafever, etc so I doubt I am a "nowadays watcher."
And I didn't put drop it instantly.. I kept watching and watching and watching thinking there is no way they will run into problems again. They actually have a decent plot and character interaction so there is no reason to suspend my disbelief so much that I am watching at 25 IQ.
I can understand running into gang members that have to do with the plot but they were constantly running into completely unrelated criminals every where they went. China can not possibly be filled to that degree with criminals.
I have watched multiple chinese historical dramas now and this one is still the best like mimi said. Even after watching it for a second time it still was way more interesting than the newer stuff shows.
The main actress was pretty terrible in my opinion. The thing I really disliked about the show was how few concubines they actually had which made things seem too ridiculously fake. Overall I gave it a 7/10.. still not even close to Legend of Concubine Zhen Huan though.
The first few episodes were very amateurish, so much so that I was almost going to drop the show. For example there were scenes where the OST made no sense, camera angles that were terrible, acting overall just seemingly bad. I am not sure when but maybe 5 episodes in things started improving.
So far the drama has been interesting since there are a lot of characters who are different than you would expect them to be which makes interactions unique.
I enjoyed the first 50% but then the next 25% seemed to focus on the main guy way way too much. I didn't like the show focusing on him so had to skip A LOT. I did eventually understand that all the new character introductions was setting the stage for the last section focused again on ming lan.
Honestly I did enjoy the first and last part but because of that boring 25% I would say I rate it a 8.0 maybe even a 7.5. I think Legend of Concubine Zhen Huan was way better in my opinion but I still found it very interesting with a focus not on the palace but just an average noble family.
It started out good but got boring when it started to become way too work related. I sped through the last maybe ten episodes. I gave it a 7.5 since it was still really interesting early on... excluding the first half I would rate the last half probably a 6.0.
I finished it but I can't say it was my favorite drama by yoori. I rated it a 7/10 and that is with a pretty decent amount of speeding through episodes. If I didn't skip it probably would be a 6.
