Oh yes, I love me some ahjussis! No flower boys for me. No siree. I like grown men! And I swear just looking at…
Haha, winnie, apparently you know me well! :-)

Oh sure, I know the average looking Korean guy will not look like those we see on TV, but of 50 mil people there can't be only a few idols that are attractive. I'm not worried about them not being attractive enough, just that they might not be tall enough & may be too skinny. I like my men with meat on 'em & a little height! ;-) Not that anything will ever happen between me & them, mind you. Just looking, no touching!
As for your comment about men. Well, the same could be said about women. I never bought the popular feminist ideology that 'man=bad, woman=good'. I think there are bad people in this world & men just happen to commit slightly more crime than women. However, I believe the vast majority of men are good, at least those on this side of the world.
I'm a strong person too, but not when it comes to people in pain, physical or emotional. It depresses me that I cant help them.
Well, I have two of his movies, Chilling Romance & Romantic Island, on my list, but I'm not interested in any of his dramas. At least not the ones mentioned. By the way WHO is that guy next to him in the still from I Really Really Like You? He's hot! :-)

Yes, we're thinking either Copenhagen, Hirtshals or Hamburg. We'll see how the prices are. This year I got back a tidy sum from my tax returns so we have a little extra cash to burn. That being said, I would have much preferred to have gone to Seoul but the BF would hear nothing of it. He hates flying long distances (if it's not to see family or to some place he REALLLLY wants to go to). Needless to say he doesn't have the drama bug like I do so Seoul for him is not a priority. Might as well, because I fully intend to ogle all those hot Korean men while I'm there & he'd just get in the way ... haha.
Wow, you really must be a strong person to do what you do. I can not cope in any profession where I have to see people suffer on a daily basis, esp children. I just don't have that kind of emotional fortitude. I hope you don't let it colour your outlook on the world (or the men folk).

I probably will just out of morbid curiosity. This is probably the only case in which I think the movie will be better than the book! Haha
I actually don't like one more than the other. I like Ana because even though she loves Christian to bits and wants to please him she puts him in his place when he needs it. And I like Christian because he's HOT. I don't like how the author ends all their arguments with sex though. Just when you think you're going to get some good drama, they hop into bed and everything is good again. Grrr.
I love romance, as you know, but theirs is soooo darn cheesy. LOL
Anyway, I can't wait to finish the 3rd book, then maybe I'll be in the mood for dramas again!
School's out now in the UK right? Are you going vacation? It's already vacation season over here, but we have no big plans since we're both very busy. Just a long weekend cruise.

Re: Shades, the movie is in the works. A director has been attached, but the lead roles have yet to be cast as far as I know. I read somewhere that they're aiming for a summer 2014 release.
As to whether the series itself is any good. I wouldn't say so. I'm more than 1/2 way thru the 3rd and final book & it's sooo all over the place. Overall it is not particularly well writtten, the credibility of the characters is weak (for eg, the male lead is a self-made gazillionaire at only 28 & you really have no idea how he makes his money). 1 min he's in telecoms, another shipping, then publishing ... it's a mess. But my biggest problem is their age. Ana is only 22, Christian 28. It's difficult for me to buy into their story when they're so young.
I'm not sure this series is worth being filmatized, but I nevertheless have a morbid curiosity to see how the film turns out.

Dongsæng, wassup? :-) Sorry for the late reply, dear. I'm in a big ol' fat drama slump! I can't seem to muster the energy to watch anything Asian these past few days so I've mostly been lurking on the feeds and stalking a few people's profiles. :)
I read your review of Oasis. Well said! You beat me to it. I still need to write my review for it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's not your typical love story & that's exactly why it's so great.
You mentioned that you watched Finding Mr. Destiny. I'm not surprised you found it just okay. I did too. In fact it's been on my 'On Hold' list since I first tried to watch it a few months ago. I tuned into it because of Gong Yoo, but the story was boring and I did't like the female lead. I think her acting was very wooden and in this role she's quite unattractive. Very shallow of me, I know, but that's how I feel! :)

Yeah, I always seem to go into a slump when a drama disappoints, but if I watch one that I really liked I want to watch another one immediately.
You're absolutely right about 50 shades, of course. It's pure escapism with very little substance. I guess they're just right for bored (maybe desperate) housewives. I prefer my entertainment to be a little more solid though. If I'm posing too many questions about the credibility of the characters' world then it's already a lost cause. But since I give everything & everyone the benefit of the doubt (both a weakness & a strength) I keep going, hoping I won't get disappointed.
In this case I know overall I won't like the series, but there are certain aspects I do like. I like Ana & Chris, but I think they're too young & I'm convinced in 10yrs they'll be divorced so it's hard for me to buy into their story.
Are you going to watch the movie?

Edinaa, I'm sorry to hear that your vacation didn't go so well, but at least you got a little sea breeze (always nice) & some quality time with grandma even though she wasn't well. I wish I could spend more time with my mom but she's halfway around the world. I miss her terribly.
Yeah TGL is written by the Hong sisters, so is Big, My GF is Gumiho & a few others. Besides TGL I've only watched one of their dramas, but from my 1st meeting with them I knew we didn't agree. I gave TGL a go bcuz everyone said it was gr8 & that Cha Seung Woo is HOT (that I definitely agree with! :-)
Anyway, I did enjoy the show. I thought it was funny & quite romantic. I loved how the cocky, narissistic playboy fell head over heels for an ordinary girl. I just wished it didn't drag so much & the kisses were better.
Right now I'm not watching anything. Kind of in a little slump. What about you?

Edinaa, dear, how was your vacation? I wish I could take a vacation, but I'm so busy that I don't have the time. I hope you enjoyed yourself though. Did you go anywhere special?
Re The Greatest Love ... I lost interested at ep 10 bcuz I felt like things were being dragged out too much. I mean it's quite obvious the heroine likes the hero, so why all the beating around the bush when she's already spent 10 episodes doing that?
I just wanted them to be a normal couple for a while instead of all the unnecessary, childish back & forth but the heroine kept coming up with these lame ass reasons to avoid the hero. Grrr.
This is the main reason I tend to avoid dramas written by the Hong sisters. All their dramas are the same. They start off nice & cute, then lose steam in the middle bcuz they're really bad at pacing. And I've noticed that the kisses in their dramas always suck! :)

Hi!
Ever since The Greatest Love fizzled out for me I haven't been interested in watching anything Asian. I even started a couple of movies & haven't been able to finish them. Guess I'm in a little slump.
I watched a couple Western flicks: 10 Years, Son of No One, Dark Skies, 247 degrees, Snitch (with my kinda sorta dream man The Rock! :-)
Almost done with the 50 shades series. I hated B2. Repetitive, boring, poorly written. It did NOT make me want to read B3, but since I couldn't return it I figured I may as well read it. Enjoying it a lot better, but I can't for the life of me fathom why these books are so popular. First of all it's marketed as BDSM erotica. That's BS. This is just vanilla sex with a little kink (not that I'm complaining mind you) & even so I've read waay better dirty romance books but they never got the hype these books get. Life sure is a bitch.

Edinaa, what's up?
Watching anything good?
I'm still watching The Greatest Love. I have 5 more eps to go but can't seem to find the motivation to continue.
Recently I've been watching a couple western flicks. Saw Side Effects (with Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones & Jude Law). It was okay. And last night I started watching Passion starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace (the woman who played in the Swedish version of the 'Dragon Tattoo' movies). So far it's not very good. I'm not done with it yet, though, so I don't know where its going.
Ever since I started watching Asian cinema my tastes have evolved dramatically. Western flicks I usually enjoy are terribly lacklustre to me now & my attention span is the size of sand grain. I drop things faster and more often than I used to! haha
Have you had a similar experience or is it just me? :)

Hey Sam, I can't remember if I responded to you (if I didn't, I apologize), but how is it going?
I just happened across AmandaMarta's wall & noticed you telling her about 'Startling by Every Step', the Chinese wuxia drama. I really like the title and have been debating whether to add it to my list. Can you explain why you liked it so much?
Also you mentioned that in addition to the Chinese the Japanese also make good historical dramas. I have to agree. Many many years ago when I was kid I watched a Japanese historical drama called Oshin. Though I don't know if I'd enjoy it as much today it was amazing back then because to this day I still remember it.
Can you recommend me some other good Japanese historical dramas? I've seen a couple movies and loved most of them, but I wouldn't mind a drama or two. Cheers. :-)

As for what I'm watching, started The Greatest Love 2 weeks ago and was really loving it until ep 10 when it started to drag in a major way. I fast forwarded to ep 16 with the intention of watching it backwards but I watched the ep and wasn't able to move on to ep 15.
I'm also watching the movies Castaway on the Moon & The Journals of Musan. I have yet to finish either of them. I don't know what's up with me lately. I've been kinda unmotivated to watch stuff.
I have a lot of work related stuff that distract me and keeps me from relaxing on my mind. Hazard of the trade, sigh ...
Oh, and I'm also reading the 50 shades books. Have read 1.5/3 books so far and they're just meh. I don't get the hype.

Several people already do ... hehe. Jeez, sometimes being on MDL makes me feel sooo old, though, but I'm actually not! I've never been on a site where so many teenagers congregate.
Ok, so that was your wacky humour coming at me, LOL. Aright, now that I know that's how you roll I won't be shocked in the future. Haha.
Well done, that you excel in more logical subjects is a good thing. I wish I did as creative, artistic types like me are just setting ourselves up to fail (7/10 times). But it is what it is. While I love my creativity & my job, there are times when I wished I had studied to become an engineer or an economist. Job wise, I think my life would have been easier.

Do you prefer Korean or Japanese dramas?

Heya Rosie, how's it going!
Yes, I had your feedback (& a few others) in mind when I told her this series has gotten good reviews from everyone I know.
And while I wish Choi Jung Yoon (I can't imagine I'll hate any other cast member more than her ... but we'll see) would just disappear and never 'act' in another drama again, I'll definitely return to the show soon.
What else is on the watch list? Anything interesting?
Was really enjoying The Greatest Love up until ep 10 when things just started to drag in a major way. Typical Hong sisters style ... starts off with a bang & then peters out. I'm determined to finish it (because I hate dropping things), but my motivation to keep going has taken an extended vacation.

I wasn't able to finish 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (or its overly dramatic original title, Men who hate women) either. I fell victim to the hype, but to be honest I don't care for Scandinavian literature. It's always so preachy with its agenda, esp when gender politics lies at its core. Meh.
I won't continue with that series. I watched the movie, the Swedish original & thought it was much better than the American remake (of course), but I didn't care for it. I just don't like the subject matter. I think Scandinavian women in general play the victim ( & lambaste their men) too much when they as a group have it far, far better in every respect than many other women in the world (including other western women). As an American who has lived here for many yrs I still have a hard time understanding why they complain so much. Btw, I'm aware the author of the books is a man.
